That would have sucked big time. At least with Luke and Baggy there was a renewed magic in the clubhouse....just in the nick of time. And having Baggy pint hit is going to be exciting. Whever we need a big hit baggy can step in pose a serious threat.

Whew....glad we didn't get the guy....he is an injury waiting to happen, and would probably dissappoint in the long run.

Let the young guys get a chance to play in the crunch, see what they are made of....we already know what Griffey is made of....Clay....

PS. I posted this before I read about Griffey maybe being out....but not surprised.

No surprise there. It was only a matter of time.

I think Purpura puts a voodoo curse on any player we try to get, but don't.

The reason the Astros are competing for the playoffs is in large part due to free agent signings - Clemens and Pettitte. I'm sure a few bad trades along the way wouldn't have them much worse than the 26th in runs scored they are right now.

What if we had traded Oswalt or Berkman or Lane or Everett or Qualls or Lidge or Ensberg or Lane when they were minor leaguers in this "pay any price" crap to get a player in the late 90's or early 2000's?

That's exactly what people are advocating - b****ing that Purpura won't trade away the farm to get a bat, because apparently this is the only year we'll be any good.

But, of course, had Pupurra pulled the trade off, this injury would somehow also be his fault...

    Just an unscientific hunch.

So far he has been very "lucky" [winging it lucky] - I guess it is better to be lucky than good.

What a ridiculous post. Last I checked, this team was supposed to be a "cellar dweller" all season... but somehow the Astros KNEW that they could put a contending team on the field without hitting the panic button and taking on a bloated and unneeded contract. Griffey would have been nice, even if he would have been injured, I would have loved to have seen him wandering our outfield next season... but I would NOT have wanted to sell off top prospects for a guy who is so injury prone and only has 2-3 declining seasons left. We already have one of those contracts in Bagwell, we don't need another.

Purpura stuck to his guns, saying he knew our team could be competitive and wait for next season's free agent market... and he did just that. At the end of this season we're going to have boatloads of money to work with and not have to worry about yet another rent-a-player leaving town after robbing us blind.

You're a brainchild, aren't you? Let's talk in a month and check in on the Burke/Scott two-headed monster. Or better yet, I can wait until a huge LOSS (not posting on the heal of a MIRACLE win) and reinforce my opinion that we should have made a move. My opinion will not change - we should have traded for a stick.

Big Win last night = happy. Let's hope that we have many more miracles between now and the end of the season.

Bah. The only reason I'm so familiar with ad hominem is because I've been guilty of it far too often.
