The N4 jersey curse continues. Any time I get a player's jersey, BAM, he's gone. Now I've gotta find a way to get Miller taken off of the back of my jerseys and my last name put on. Dammit. That said, and everyone here knows how big of a Miller fan I am, we HAVE to do this deal. I'm surprised to see negative comments. Let's face it, Nene will NEVER live up to his potential here. He's not happy. He gets less rebounds per game than some guards in the league. It's time to move him, we have the depth up front. I would much rather deal Boykins, but this is the type of move that could catapult the team to the top. Pierce is going to be like Vince Carter was last year in NJ -- you're going to see him EXPLODE when he moves on to prove himself. Remember, he almost single handedly carried Boston to the conference finals a few years ago. I will admit this makes me worried about the PG situation though. My thoughts on Boykins are pretty well known and I just haven't watched enough of Watson to feel completely comfortable with him starting at the PG position (and he would undoubtedly start over Boykins). That said, Kiki has to make this move if it's offered. Now a few comments from the thread I should address. Acquiring Bount is enough for me to call this deal off. Absolute stiff. No way I want him. I honestly would walk away from the deal if that happened. Everyone predicted Melo and Karl would blow up last year. They did, to a 32-8 record (I can't remember the exact record, but you get the point). Melo is growing up. As for Pierce, if I remember correctly, he was a team leader and a really positive player until his stabbing. Once that happened, he changed. I honestly think that a change of scenery is what he needs, and you can doubt me if I want but I'd be saying the same thing if he was going ANYWHERE. Quote of the year. Thank you.
I don't see Denver being anymore of a threat with Pierce. He's good but if I were Denver, I think I'd prefer keeping Nene and Miller. Pierce is redundent and not quite as good as his contract.
Ya, I didn't say the Nugs want Blount, just that they might have to take him to get Pierce. If I'm Boston, I'll try to package my worst contract w/ Pierce.
From Denver's standpoint, they have to make this trade if they can. Not only do they upgrade talent, they also can now spread the court with Pierce on the perimeter. If everything goes well, Denver's more likely to win a chamipionship with Pierce over Miller/Nene. However, there is the problem of losing depth and insurance for Camby. And it's unclear if Watson/Boykins can run the offense nearly as well as Miller. I don't know if chemisty is a problem. Certainly, it's easier to have good chemistry when your stars and role players are well-defined, like with the Rockets. But Detroit is a great example of a balanced lineup that can gel. Karl might not be Larry Brown, but he's certainly a very good coach. The problems are more about personnel. Can Pierce defend against faster SG? Will Camby stay healthy? Can Watson distribute the ball affectively? I would be much more concerned if Dallas managed to land Pierce. Because they have depth to spare. So any trade that lands them Pierce will be a huge boost to their overall talent.
Pierce and Walker gave Boston their best teams in over a decade. I don't see why Pierce and Melo wouldn't work. Round out the team with defensive players and role players who can play within a set offense (KM, Camby, Watson), that could be a very good team. A lot of you guys IMO misread Dre Miller. I think he is the classic excellent PG on a bad team, or mediocre PG on a good team. Thus he makes a lot of sense for Boston who is rebuilding and needs guys to break down a defense, and a lot less sense for Denver or especially the Rockets who someone mentioned (we needs a PG to play off of Tmac and Yao, and one who does not need the ball in their hands). The Dallas offer is garbage for a player of Pierce's caliber. An overpriced 3nd year guy with a multiyear contract who cashed in as a rookie because no one payed any attention to him and he was mildly effective over stretches (Marquis Daniels), and a decent all round player (Josh Howard) but also one who also would look very average if not surrounded by superior defense drawing talent that Dallas has (Dirk, Finley, Terry or Nash). I think Dre, Nene + maybe modest filler/tweaking (1st rounder, Hodges, Kleiza, and/or Leonard?) for Pierce is quite equitable for both teams.
Well, that's one person over the age of 16 that has an NBA jersey...Do you also take a glove with you to Rockies games?
amen. miller is the last point-guard you want to run a fast-break team, and although his overall game his solid he is a cancer - albeit a very subtle one. i saw him quite a bit on the clippers. he slows you down, he fails to show leadership, his defense is just a step slow, and his ability to distribute the ball is overrated as hell. plus, his contract runs until 2009. let's face it: at present, the nuggets best guard is earl boykins. as for nene, he would help the c's interior defense, but is he ever healthy? and he's still pretty raw, and not a particularly good rebounder. k-mart, najera or camby? i like those guys, on the other hand, despite their questionable knees.
Sure, Pierce and Walker were a "very good team." So would Pierce and Anthony. But a "very good team" is not a championship team. Boston with the two stars had always been an early round exit playoffs team. So would Denver if they pair Pierce with Melo. Pierce, Walker, and Anthony have some common points: 1. Good offensive players with so-so defense 2. Need to shoot a lot 3. Talented enough to be "stars" but not enough to be "superstars" who you need to be a championship team As long as a team has two of this kind of players without a superstar leader, it will be kept out of both the championship and the lottery.
My thoughts too. PP needs ball to be effective. You've got Kmart,Melo, and PP, wow if that's true, this is drama for the Nugs. Sorry even the trade goes down, I still dont see Nugs passing the 1st round. That said, it's still a steal for the Nugs if all they have to give up is fragile Miller and Nene. Angie, what the hell are you thinking, dont you have youngsters like Jefferson that shows more promise than Nene. If you want dump salary, come talk to CD.
I don't know how reliable this is, but according to this the rumor is false: http://www.celticsblog.com/ 110% Chance September 8th, 2005 by Jeff Ryen Russillo’s sources tells him that there is a “110% chance Paul is wearing a Celtics jersey opening night.” (Russillo is from 1510 TheZone’s Diehards) InsideHoops Shoots Down Its Own Rumor September 8th, 2005 by Jeff From the source itself: But late Thursday morning a high-ranking member of the Celtics organization personally informed InsideHoops.com that the rumor is incorrect. And if you need more info, I’m told by Gabe Kahn that Ainge asked about Miller a few years back but “there was something sketchy about Andre that made Ainge deem him to be a hands off type of player, a guy who Ainge didn’t want to deal with. Whether it was injury or attitude related, I don’t know. ” Update: Now InsideHoops is hedging its bets. The quote now says “…a high-ranking member of the Celtics organization personally shot down thoughts that a deal is done.” Sounds like they are leaving the door open in case a deal happens. Update 2: They updated the page AGAIN. Now “…a high-ranking member of the Celtics organization personally shot down the rumor.” Update 3: Why not make another change? Now “…a high-ranking member of the Celtics organization told InsideHoops.com via email that the rumor is “incorrect.” ” Finally we have a direct quote, even if it is just one word. This could be anything from a standard denial because the deal isn’t finished yet to a legitimate denial of a total fabrication. Or it could be something in the middle. There seems to be more smoke, we’ll see soon enough if there is a fire down there somewhere. Pugs
It certainly isn't. You're looking at about 2 fights a week over who's really the franchise player and who took more shots. The Earl Watson pickup and an offseason of batting 0.010 would suggest that the Nugs may want to make a trade with someone, even if it isn't the C's. Oh, and Jeff Leichner or whatever at inside hoops is ridiculously self-promoting. Seriously annoying. Anytime he hears about any ultra-minor thing, he can't help but trumpet it with the horns of Vescey. Evan
meh. just another person for TMac to drop 40 on and another person that'll get the Ming-Swift sandwich if he came into the paint.
