    Since Jordan era. ;)

I was a fan of Penny's. But guess I wasn't that big a fan of the NBA that I am today.

Uh, come again? Did you really accuse Ric Bucher of a "misconception" on an issue that involves two hoops and a ball?

Yao has already played the 3 guaranteed years of his contract (2002-03, 03-04, 04-05). The upcoming 05-06 year is a team option year, which the Rockets obviously chose to exercise. Yao would be free to sign with anyone to the max, next summer.

Does the issue of Bird rights even apply under the new CBA? Is it even true that the Rockets could've offered more than anyone else after this upcoming season?

Man, if China loses to Iran, Yao is going to look bad. Yao needs to tell the guards "hit me with the damn ball when I am open"

If i was 7'6 and probably more injury prone than the average NBA player, i woulld sign that max extension as soon as possible as well. I say that, though, i always believed Yao would stay here. He's always seemed loyal and has never shown reason to believe otherwise.

Yao 29/17 in 35 minutes of play. The entire front line of Iran were fouled out in the early 4th qtr. The game was almost comic. One Iran center fouled Yao 3 times in 45 seconds. Yao went to the line 22 times.

Oh, by the way China 75 Iran 59. Iran is supposed to challenge Korea for the 2nd spot. :D

What makes it funnier is that w/o Yao, I don't think China would crack the top 3.

You don't know what you are talking about. China has almost always been the top 1 (occasionally top 2) team in Asia since they started joining the competition a few decades ago (before that, they kept to themselves IRRC).

    All I recall is this:

    Boomers sweep Gaze Cup

The Australian men's basketball team has completed a clean sweep of the inaugural Gaze Cup four-nation tournament in Sydney on Sunday with a crushing 88-58 win over China.

The result established the Boomers as favourites for the Oceania basketball series against New Zealand, which starts in Auckland on Wednesday, after their four straight victories.

They beat Lithuania and China in Perth last week before downing New Zealand and China, who are missing their top stars including Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets, again in Sydney.

Australian coach Brian Goorjian said his players were tired but was confident they would be fresh for the Oceania matches.

"I thought we dug deep and got the win. Recovery, rest, all of those things are our friend right now, but it has been long and gruelling few weeks," Goorjian said.

"It is an issue but we're addressing it, and I have no doubt in my mind that we'll be fresh and full of energy come the series in New Zealand."

Matt Nielson (22 points and eight rebounds) was again in fine form against China, while Mark Worthington (11 points) also performed strongly.

After his match-winning 32-point performance against New Zealand, the tournament's Most Valuable Player CJ Bruton scored eight points in little more than half a game.

In the earlier match, New Zealand scored its third win of the tournament with an 86-77 victory over a disappointing Lithuanian side which finished third with one win, ahead only of the Chinese who did not win a match.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Australia plays in the same league/area as China does it not?

Not. Australia is NOT part of Asia!!!!!! We are not talking about Asia-Pacific here. Anyway, don't know how much you know about the world map ;)

I never claimed it to be part of Asia physically. Basketball-wise Australia often plays in tournaments with Asian countries.
