Revenge of Sith - I liked it. Dumb, but fun. Its a kids movie, btw. If you didn't see the "Clone Wars" cartoons, you go in at a disadvantage. B+

Charlie and Chocolate Factory - I have to give it an "A" just for the line about the puppet hospital and burn recovery center, which was brilliant. Ok, and I have seen every Tim Burton movie at least twice, so I may be biased.

War of the Worlds - Dumber but fun as well. My buddy said this about it: "See it once, enjoy the ride, but NEVER EVER WATCH IT AGAIN or you will notice the plot holes." Good advice. B

    Murderball - cool flick.

Kung Fu Hustle - Really dug it. A+

(As you see, I didn't go to many movies this summer)

What's a "movie" ? Is that like a DVD with no pause button?

i only saw 3 movies in the theatre all summer

star wars - at least it didnt suck as bad as the other 2 and dare i say i actually enjoyed it...

but than about a week later i saw batman begins!!! batman takes a big bat-dump all over starwars. that movie kicked ass. i had no idea it was going to be that good when i saw it. i think i like it better than any of the tim burton ones. batman is a ninja!

and when in des moines nothing passes the time like the wedding crashers. i laughed the whole way thru and than will ferrell comes in for the last half hour and it gets even better.

    MOM!!! F***ING MEATLOAF!!!

i also saw a documentary at the alamo drafthouse about the minutemen (the band) that was pretty awesome.

You know, the Box Office suffered greatly this year because most of the movies have been so bad. Down huge from last summer. I actually saw a lot this year, for some reason:

    Star Wars - boring - C

    Batman - best Wayne/Batman treatment, villain/plot underused - B+

Penguins - enjoyable but I would have preferred the original music and narration - B+

Charlie - boring, Burton didn't really bring anything new to the original or book, except for a shallow overly sentimental new ending - C

Wedding Crashers - first hour = great, after that = painful - B (first hour gets an A, though)

Star Wars III - B - the best since the original 3
Wedding Crashers - A+ - one of my all-time favorites already
Batman Begins - B+ - surprisingly good, great cast
    Fantastic Four - D - Alba = hot, movie = not
40 Year Old Virgin - A- - really funny movie with a good heart
Bewitched - D- - a few Will Ferrell moments saved it from F status
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - B- - classic Tim Burton and well-acted, plot wandered a bit

Star Wars was easily the best movie of the summer.

Batman was ok. It's not nearly as good as people say and very forgettable.

I saw only two movies this summer:

Star Wars Episode III(D+) - Very disappointing. Massive plotholes, lazy performances, no memorable supporting characters(even TPM had a few), boring action sequences, and quite possibly the worst depiction of a character going from good to evil in cinematic history. And Darth Vader's intro....dear God! The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite movie ever, but that scene was so embarrasing, it brings down the entire original trilogy.

Batman Begins(A) - It took 16 years, but we finally got a great Batman film. It puts every previous Batflick to shame. Katie Holmes was a little out of her element and I would've preferred a more thematic score, but otherwise it was a perfect origin movie. Liam Neeson's performance as Bruce Wayne's mentor makes me look back at Qui-Gon in The Phantom Menace and wonder what might've been had George Lucas hired a real writer and director.

Charlie sucked. Depp had nowhwere to go and was utterly horrific in charlie. Especially the end where him and charlie talk about licorice or whatever at the dinner table. That might have been the most painful scene throughout the whole movie. So well planned and so expected...so hollow.

Longest Yard was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while.

Land of the Dead was ok but I hate seeing people getting killed by zombies that can barely walk. Only execeptions should be when your surrounded by a mob of them or when they surprise you in the dark.

War of the Worlds was good too, it pretty much followed the original movie. The girl screaming was a annoying though.

The other movies I saw were ok, Star Wars 3, Fantastic 4, and I cant remember the other movies I watched.

I was wondering if anyone else saw this. I had no idea this movie even existed until I got here to Austin (UT) and saw it was playing at Dobie. I looked in the paper, saw George Carlin's name, and was there.

I really liked it. I'm not big on documentaries, but it was about a joke and that's A. a unique idea and B. a really good way to take ten dollars from me.

"So the guy shoots his son in the head and then f*cks the bullethole."

Bob Saget wrecked, so to speak. And of course GC was his usual self.

I'm definitely picking it up when it comes out on DVD.

As far as Star Wars, the movie was basically garbage.

And mateo, I'm assuming you were joking about ROTS being a kids' movie. I mean, I guess I could kind of see how you might think that. Here were a few of the few kid-friendly scenes in ROTS:

    *Oh yeah, and some spoilers*

    1. Anakin decapitates Count Dooku in the first ten minutes.
    2. Anakin cuts off Mace Windu's arm before Palpatine throws him through a window.
    3. Anakin slaughters a bunch of Jedi younglings.
    4. Clonetroopers turn coat and murder the Jedi that they're supposed to be protecting.
    5. Anakin chokes Padme.
    6. Obi-wan cuts off Anakin's arms and legs.
    7. Obi-wan leaves Anakin burning to death in a puddle of lava.
    8. Jimmy Smits.

I can see how the popular misconception would arise that ROTS is a movie for kids. The sad fact is that George Lucas is a moron and can't write a movie to save his life, so he comes out and says that adults shouldn't expect too much from the movie because it's really for kids, despite all evidence to the contrary.

TPM was a kids' movie. Jar-Jar, pod racing, and droids fighting so that real people wouldn't have to die. ROTS is the darkest SW movie of them all, period. And not for kids at all.

Oh yeah, and Wedding Crashers was hilarious.

Wedding Crashers & 40 Year Old Virgin were the best, period...

I saw Madagascar and Valliant with the kids and they were pretty good...I also saw Herbie Fully Loaded and it was pretty good for its target audience, kids...

Overall, I enjoyed the movies I saw, but too many crappy movies as I wasn't in the theaters as much as I would have liked...
