the title is a little misleading... it should just read "agrees to donate marrow."

Has Yao changed clothes since he's been over there? It seems he's worn a white shirt and white shorts in almost every photo I've seen. Reebok needs to send a care package his way. :)

Rox should get hold of some of these Yao's stem cells and start cloning some junior Yaos.

There will be some fatigue the first week or so , but your body recovers very quickly after bone marrow donation since your body just makes more. I'm pretty sure that's what it was since there was something about a leukemia patient Yao was helping out -- I don't think you can donate stem cells...

Unfortunatnly it says he already passed away and that Yao will donate if it matches with anyone else.

Donating bone marrow does not sap your energy any more than donating blood does. My girlfriend is a bone marrow transplant survivor since March of 04, and she is still going strong from the bone marrow she received from her little brother. A bone marrow transplant, contrary to popular belief due to the word 'transplant', is basically a blood donation (the procedure to remove the bone marrow at least). The only difference is that prior to donating the blood, the bone marrow donor is given medicine to boost up production of his/her natural marrow in her body, and after a couple days of receiving the medicine, the donor simply goes to the hospital to donate blood, where a machine then separate the newly produced bone marrow from the blood. The recipient of the bone marrow gets the marrow infused via IV, much like he/she would receive blood. Nobody goes under the knife, neither the donor or the recipient. Just in case anyone has any real misconceptions about lingering effects, her little brother is the star starting fullback for his high school and has gained, oh, probably 20-30 lbs. of muscle since the procedure.

It's a beautiful thing, donating marrow! Newborn umbilical cords are very high in stem cells, and there is donation bank which collects the cords to create a worldwide database for bone marrow transplantation...spread the word. Chances are, it will end up saving the life of somebody you love.

And as for Yao...did we need any more proof that this guy is the real deal? So logical, so humble - we in Houston are indeed lucky to have him.

If that was how it worked, the league would be full of Jordan, Chamberlain, brid, etc. Jrs.

How about an arranged marriage between Yao's future kid and Shaq's or LeBron's?
