Honda's Insight and Toyata's Prius are on the market. They are gas/electric hybrids that get 60+ miles to the gallon.

From what I've seen, their technology is not much different from combustion technology already available.

As for fully electric cars, there are very few on the market, but several are coming later this year from what I've heard.

With the rising prices on electricity, why would you want one of these?

The electric/gasoline hybrids recharge while you are driving them. They do not require electricity from an A/C outlet.

Many electric cars are now being offered with rechargeable solar battery packs. You just put the extra batter into a charging solar pack with cells on inconspicuous areas of your car like next to the tail lights or on the roof. We're talking a very small number of cells, not some giant solar panel.

With those packs, you can recharge a second battery the way I recharge the batteries for my cordless drill. While one is in the drill, the other is in the recharger.

I think some of the new hybrids are doing even cooler things. I believe it's the Prius or the the Insight that recharges the battery when you apply the brakes. That's pretty cool.

These cars aren't cheap as you'd think. I know they sell for around $20k. I wouldn't mind getting one if they weren't so butt-ugly.

    Uglier than the Focus/Echo/PT Cruiser?
    Is 20K the Avg price?
I figure over time the savings in Gas
will bring it down to something like 10~15 K

Like I said who fixes this sh*t and how much
will that cost. Will that take away the gas
    savings.
