Well I guess I'm going against the flow here, but I found the guy's story about the woman drowning kind of hard to swallow. How can she be fine on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, in a place that obviously has a working phone, and then suddenly drown on Friday? I don't remember any new levee breaches that day. And the tears? Seemed like a total acting job to me.
The President hugging survivors and acting concerned for their safety, seemed like a total acting job to me.
I thought it was pathetic. Pitiful. THAT is the type of leader that should resign. Now the cursing mayor I have no problems with. But when you lead people your weakness will resonate in them and that man's frailty hurt people.
I wouldn't give that jackass all the credit now.....notice how none of those little vignettes aired live.....nah, only after magic editing + airbrushing + dick & karl's 2 thumbs up their asses.....was that crap actually released to the networks..
I saw nothing about Broussard that was weak. Because he showed emotion about somebody who was promised help, but didn't receive it and died, doesn't in anyway mean he was weak. If his emotion prevented him from getting his points across and doing his job, then he might be weak. That didn't happen. Please tell me what you thought was weak about that man.
The affected citizens don't need to see helplessness in their leaders. They need to see strength. I was a little harsh at 3 this morning and regret typing that but I stand by the sentiment that his behaivor was irresponsible.
For those of you who keep saying it's "playing politics", tell that to Newt Gingrinch and now Trent Lott, who are blasting federal relief efforts. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/05/katrina.lott/index.html Lott said he has been trying to get FEMA to send 20,000 trailers "sitting in Atlanta" to the Mississippi coast, and he urged President Bush during a meeting Monday to intervene. He said FEMA has refused to ship the trailers until contracts are secured. FEMA incompetence at its finest.
He is a president of a Parish of 150,000, that's like being the mayor of Lufkin. I don't think he ever thought he would be dealing with this. I sure he is overwhelmed.
A bunch of leaders pretending everything is OK is the last thing the people need. They need to know their leaders understand the reality of what they are going through, and both he and the mayor, in very different ways, demonstrated that.
Pretending everything is ok? That's ridiculous. What I am saying that leaders have an innate responsibility to maintain an equilibrium of collectiveness. If a General is going nuts then his colonels and light birds are more apt to go nuts. If they go nuts than the majors and captains go nuts. Then the lieutenants go nuts and the soldiers have no leaders so they go nuts. Leaders lead by example irrespective of the environment.
That's applies to leaders who have something to lead. This parish President does not have anyone or anything to lead to this point, so his breaking down has no consequence. What it does do is get the real story out there - no spin, no false bravado, just real honest pleas for help. Like the Mayor's diatribe, it gets people to realize the significance of what's really going on. Believe it or not, lots of people still don't understand.
Chance, does accountability mean anything in the realm of a strong leadership? Perhaps "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job" is the only thing you want to hear.
Broussard should've just put on a happy face and cracked jokes about all the times he and his buddies had gone up to N.O. to get plastered.....cuz that's what the ppl need to hear to make em feel like they're in good hands
We should at least be grateful to Barbara Bush for not trying to mask the fact that she is an elitist snob.
Come on the guy is clearly feeling the strain........it will get better......but ......another Hurricane will hit New Orleans again...it is just a matter of time. The earth is 4.6 billion years old, and Hurricanes will eventually hit everywhere along the gulf coast...... DD
He still has plenty to lead. You can still give a truthful account w/out breaking down and being negative. Breaking down has dire consequences ... just because a fireman runs out of water doesn't mean he should throw gasoline on the fire. The mayor was elected to run the city. The gov. was elect to run the state. They were not elected to throw their hands up, get on national TV, and give negative information that we already knew in the first place. Ever head of the term, "Frag the Lieu"? Get someone in there who's going to provide leadership. I don't know who's job is to do what. These people breaking down are not someone I want to lead me during crisis. The fingers go all the way from the top and down to the bottom, from the past to the present. We need someone to clean it up, not point fingers.
