This whole thing is kind of strangely anticlimatic. After he made the decision to try to play this season, it seemed he was devoted to another season of football, whether he really should be or not. Then he goes through the rigors of training camp and preseason, and AFTER he makes the team he decides to retire? What was the point of all that? I guess he just had a change of heart.

Great career and I'm a strong advocate of play until you drop. The nonsene of going out on top kills me. What is the point of that. Have fun and play until you drop. Way to go Jerry. Great career!!

Glad to see he decided retirement was better than a season in Denver.

    You were the greatest Jerry.

Word is he wanted to be the third receiver and he wasn't going to be and I heard on another sports show that there would be games he wouldn't suit up.

As far as when a great should retire I don't know. There is something dignified and mystic about the way Sanders and Jim Brown went out. And while I agree that you should do something you love until you can't, the way Jerry is going out, barely making a team and being turned down by others is pathetic. Same with Jordan, even though he clearly was a servicable player, bickering with nobodies like Kwame Brown and Stackhouse and not even making the playoffs is pathetic.

I think Elway went out the best, clearly a step slower but still good and with a championship. Although the championship wasn't under his control, I think it was still at the perfect point of his career.

Glad to see that Rice isn't going to stunt the growth of Darius Watts and Charlie Adams. :p

He didn't have to play on the Broncos for me to agree with you on this statement.

You know, I have a good buddy who is adamant about the fact that Jerry is the GREATEST NFL player of all time, regardless of position.

Tough to argue against... but it makes for interesting discussion.
