Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera report from the ground, not with stories of looters and rapists, but the inhuman situation on the ground in the Convention Center. Sean Hannity keeps trying to move the discussion back to the meaningless statistics of supply convoys that nobody's seeing, but the reporters talk over him, totally abandoning the talking points.

    Watch video here.

The situation is so bad even Geraldo Rivera is telling the truth. Shep Smith says people were told to move to evacuation points like the Convention Center, then they were "locked in" and checkpoints have been set up to forcibly "turn people around" if they try to come out of the city, turn back into the flooded ruins where there is "no electricity, no medicine for old people... we've been telling (the government) for days now, it's like time has stopped". Sean Hannity says "I want to get a little perspective here," Shep yells over him "That IS the perspective, that's all the perspective you NEED!" Sean Hannity keeps on talking about the convoys (the images of trucks sloshing through the floodwaters) with "food, there was water, there were supplies," but both reporters keep saying nobody on the ground is actually getting help, they "wish they knew" who was in charge and how people could get help, they have "no idea" whether supplies will actually get through in the next 24 hours. Rivera was almost crying, he kept on repeating "Let them go, let them walk out of here."

This is the first time I've respected anything Shep Smith has ever done. He looked like he wanted to punch that smug idiot Hannity in the nose.

I saw that, I also saw the other one with Bill O'rielly. They kept trying to change the subject. The reporters kept taking them back to reality. They kept pointing the fingers at the local government and the people who were UNABLE to leave. The reporters on the ground for FOX were telling it like it was for the first time. No swaying or anything. All that idiot Sean H. wanted to talk about was the so called "Looters" and the shootings. He never wanted to discuss WHY the people were doing these things. I have to tip my hat to Geraldo on this one, he reported the news the way it was supposed to be reported.

Hannity is a total tool. I thought Geraldo was being a bit too dramatic, but that guy shepard smith one me over. Never liked the fellow, he just gave me the creeps sometimes, but then he kept interupting Hannity. And all that guy wants to talk about the convoys that are one the way and how marvelously the our gaurds are doing. Which they are, but it almost seems that he wants to sugarcoat whats going on in NO. That guys just throat gagging all over BUsh's c**k.

I have been quiet impressed by Smith as well, especially the times I have seen him on the O'Reilly Factor, when even Bill himself (to his credit) has been lambasting the government's response, and has been as neutral in this whole thing as you could've expected.

At one point, O'Reilly, after being essentially hushed by Shephard Smith, asked Smith if he was bitter because "I feel some bitterness from you".

The man was truly impressive, easily the best on-the-ground reporting by any news correspondent.

Shepard Smith is an airhead. But there is little doubt that he has been affected by what he's seen there.

What a difference term limits make in the reaction of partisans to their chosen official's performance.
