Hopefully Cory Bradford gets cut Sunday. He is the worst route runner I have ever seen. With Sloan Thomas, Gaffney, Armstrong, Swinton, Mathis all stepping up, Bradford should not make the team. He is track guy playing football. By the way, Ragone should be the backup now that Tony Banks shows kind of horrible QB he is. David Carr better step up his game because he sucked. If they have a losing season this year, hopefully Capers and his whole staff are fired.
Yes this was just preseason but clearly something is very wrong. The team has not looked good at all this year and if you look back to the Cleveland game last year, it appears that they have hit some sort of plateau. I am concerned with the decisions Capers & Casserly have made: to change Carr's drop to a 3-step drop; to not upgrade the personnel on the offensive line; to run that "zone blocking" scheme on offense that fails to protect the QB; to not incorporate the tight end into the passing offense and on and on. I listened to John McClain on 610 today and he echoed my major concern about preseason: that it wasn't camp fodder guys making all of these mistakes, blowing assignments and getting burned - that it was guys who will be on this team next week doing so, guys who are supposed to be players. I am also troubled by the really poor play of both lines. The O line is consistently being squashed at the point of attack, often getting completely knocked off the line of scrimmage. They are getting beaten so badly that they are reaching and grabbing and flailing about because they can't block anybody. Carr, Johnson and Bradford look like they just met 15 mins earlier in the parking lot - not like they have played together for over a year. Bradford gets absolutely no separation with his defender which in addition to his inability to run routes leaves me shaking my head as to why the hell he's still here. I see too much wrong to believe that they can turn it around next week simply because next week "counts". I am getting ready for a long and unfulfilling season.
My thoughts exactly. The team's failure to address the offensive line is a disaster. What were they thinking?
