Yea i was thinking the same thing.. I know he said that we would see a new Yao, but not a new Yao move. Twisted..
with swift on board you'll probably see more yao/t-mac pick and pop. Before they wanted Yao underneath the board as much as possible since he shouldered a lot of the rebounding responsibilities. Now Swift can roam and flash in for Offensive rebounds which Juwon did a pretty decent job of towards the middle of the season. I agree though that Yao doesn't really need a new move but just needs to strengthen the ones he does have. Though one thing I think Yao could use better is working with his teammates on how to signal for the lob over the fronting defense. It may appear easy but takes a lot of communciation between the passer and post man. It's something I've been adding my my game as well after seeing Hakeem do it so easily in game 1 of the 94 finals against NYC that Rockets2k posted.
Well there was a couple of nice lob passes in game 1, but there was also a couple of turnovers in the game too off the lob. It goes to show that the notion of "why don't they lob it into Yao" isn't as simple as it seems. Even Hakeem with all his gifts didn't make that play 100%, and this is with the benefit of no heap cheating over the top of the front.
I don't have the interview on my keychain, either. I may still have a copy at my office, but I doubt it. Looks like somebody else will have to re-up it.
speaking of passing.. I really hope Yao put some glue or something on his hands this year so he can handle those quick passes inside or near the rim. He dropped way too many passes from TMac during the dallas series.
yao should train with Hot Sauce from AND1. for like a month, im sure he could pickup some nice moves. that would be something to behold wouldnt it? yao crossing over nowitzki and dunkin on bradley. ahh..one can only dream
a deadly accurate granny-style freethrow... Actually, if he just become more solid (phyiscally) that would help him a lot..
It will be something like behind the back cross-over, dribble the length of the court, then a forceful slam-down... sorry, too late. OK, it will be a 3-pointer from download after the guard kicks it out to him... ooops, my bad. Well, I guess it's an up-and-under move to the hoop like Kevin McHale... ouch, I am 3 years late for that. Damn it! How about a Hakeem like baseline double-fake twinster!!!!... Posting up Shaq and spin in for a left-hand layup? Behind the back pass while sitting on the floor? Dropping a pass backward over his own head to a cutting guard in for a layup? Slap the ball to bounce-pass it to another player?... I don't know, guys. My imagination is poor. I guess if Yao can learn any of these moves, it'd be incredible for a 7'6 center.
I have it from a reliable source that "Stevie" has taught Ming his patented double-clutch, around the world, under his left arm pit, over his head, quarter-turn, reverse lay up for a turnover.
