Yao's contract is almost guarenteed to be less than 30% of the cap in 3 years. His contract is starting out at 25% of the cap with 10.5% raises while the cap has not been increasing that much in recent years. Maybe the new TV contract will change that.

It doesn't matter. Obviously, Yao Ming has advisors who will negotiate a good contract for him. Nobody can or should blame him for that. He has pledged his loyalty to Houston, and he is locked up for at least the next 5 years. If things don't work out during these next 5 years, one will have to see anyway. If they work out, I don't think he would have an incentive to leave or hold the organization to ransom. He wants to win. And he will. In Houston.

That's a pretty basic provision. Most max contracts have opt out clauses. Paul Pierce, Nowitski, T-mac, (on his original Orlando contract) Shaq, Kobe, and even Eddie Jones come to mind offhand as having one in their deals.

That's a new one. I'm trying to reconcile what I know about the CBA with a provision like this. Maybe it's a new CBA wrinkle, but usually you can't renegotiate up unless the team is under the cap, and I don't think the CBA allows teams to renegotiate down unless they get bought out.

Can players still ask for a no-trade clause in their contract these days? If so, I am somewhat surprised there isn't one in Yao's new contract.

Rockets has agreed to a lot of terms with the Chinese government & Shanghai Sharks in order to get Yao a few years back. What will happen to these agreements if Yao get traded?

If they haven't changed it from the old CBA, the stipulations for a no-trade clause are the following:

    1. At least 8 years experience in the NBA

    2. To have played at least 4 years with the team that he is signing with.

So Yao is not eligible for a no-trade clause until the final year of his current deal, aka his option year (how convenient).

Did this reporter actually interview Zhang? I doubt it.

There were too many reporters who make up Yao's words and claim them to be "exclusive interviews". Yao in July (?) made public annoucement that he is not giving exclusive interview to any one, any media, and probably will never give it no more, so that any reporter who says he has talked to Yao outside of a press conference must be lying.

Did you happen to notice that for about 2 months you did not read any "Yao interview" from chinese media?

Yeah, it's a clever provision but I would doubt that it would ever become relevant. I also doubt that it's legit, or that Yao should be able to "renegotiate" a contract when the Rox have given him every cent they can under the CBA.
