JVG was just on FM 100.3 and said that on Tuesday - Thursday, the Rockets are going to be doing a fundraiser. Also, they are going to be performing job training skills for the evacuees. He said they will be taking donations such as cash, clothes, and food Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. On hand will be the Red Cross and United Way, all of the Rockets staff, and some players including JVG. He says to check Rockets.com and toyotacentertix.com for more information. Just a little heads up.

There is a Katrina relief effort going on at the Golden Corral off 610 and Main today up until 6pm. This is being sponsored by the Alphas and Councilman Ronald Green. In addition, groups such as AKAs, Deltas, 100 Black men and others have joined the cause. They are accepting anything you can bring non-perishable or perishable donations (money, food, water, juice, etc). In addition you can purchase gift cards and then give the gift cards to evacuees to use for food. If you need directions or more information, contact Kevin Riles at 281-451-8437. Thanks,
Here's a list of things that are NOT relief efforts: Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is warning that door-to-door con artists and telephone, e-mail and Internet scams might be on the rise. Suspicious sites include: katrinahelp.com, katrinacleanup.com and katrinarelief.com
I just found out that beginning Tuesday, I will be part of a 100+ person volunteer effort to enroll schoolkids who are victims of the Hurricane in HISD schools. They are setting up the facilities at the Astrodome as we speak.
The group I posted above for clothing is now inundated in clothes for people. The response has been overwhelming. Check with the Salvation Army instead.
one more thing: if you pray...if that means something to you...remember to keep everyone involved in the relief effort in your prayers. this is going to be a multi-month adventure for many of us. it will take time away from families and careers. but it must be done. the people who are volunteering will be sapped...they will be tired..they will face the same crises of life they've always faced, while being asked to help carry this burden. don't forget them.
just gave $10 , don't have a ton since I've stopped working and in college, but figure it'll help nonetheless.
I received this from my aunt. Looks like LISA FORONDA of KHOU is doing something particular for Pets ================================================== From: Laura H. Carlock [mailto:lcarlock@gibbs-bruns.com] Sent: Thursday, September 01, 2005 10:50 AM To: undisclosed-recipients Subject: Fostering Katrina-Victimized Animals Hi again, I wanted to bring your attention to a wonderful website set up by one of our very own Mr. K’s 100. Lisa Foronda with KHOU has created a website at http://www.beloblog.com/KHOU_Animal_Attraction/ to keep you up to date on animal needs in the wake of Katrina. One thing the refugees desperately need are fosters for their family pets. If you can foster a pet, please email Lisa at lforonda@khou.com and let her know how many animals/type you can board, for how long, cost (or not), phone number, and address. Lisa has personally spoken with the CEO of Houston’s Red Cross Chapter about the best way to contact evacuees who need shelter for their animals. He has asked Lisa to email him a list of people who have space available, and he will forward that to all the local Red Cross shelters, who will be able to distribute that information to evacuees. Please let her know ASAP. She is in the process of making an excel sheet that she will forward to him this evening. Thank you all very much and thank you Lisa! Laura
