this is all from nola.com http://www.nola.com/newslogs/breaki...a_Times-Picayune/archives/2005_08.html#075246 scroll through those news items, the amount of looting that is going on is sickening ---------------- Shot police officer in surgery The New Orleans police officer shot in the head by a looter Tuesday was expected to survive, officials said. The officer, who has not been identified, was in surgery at West Jefferson Medical Center after being shot in the forehead, police said. The officer was shot by a looter after he and another officer confronted a number of looters at a Chevron store at Shirley and Gen. DeGaulle. Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies on the scene arrested four people in connection with the shooting. One of the looters reportedly was shot in the arm by an officer during a shootout.
One thing you begin to realize is how important the police really are during normal times. You'd think people would be civilized and only take the essentials like food. But I guess that book Lord of the Flies is true. Two kinds of people emerge in these environments.
how are they going to transport 20, 000 angry evacuees out of the Superdome?? that situation is deteriorating as we speak. no electricity, clogged sewage. no food, what a nightmare...people will be homeless for a long time
if you have Warner Cable...they're showing the only NOLA station left still broadcasting (and they had to move to Baton Rouge) on channel 76. the times picayune moved out as well. ghost town. can't imagine investing there again.
Hi, flamingmoe: Could you find more photos like this? Or could you tell me where are these photos from? I appreciate your help.
Haven't seen this posted yet, but Mattress Mac has said that people can stay at Gallery furniture for free. He said he has plenty of mattresses they can use and is offering free food and drinks, as well. Once again, he is showing what a stellar member of our community he is.
This is nuts. It's almost like the officials have accepted the fact that New Orleans is screwed and their is nothing they can do about it. It's just slowly going to fill up with water until the bowl is completely full.
one article i read talked about their effort at sandbagging the gaps. the guys doing that said it was like throwing sandbags into a black hole. it's just far too deep and the current far too strong for that.
the governor is doing a horrible job if you ask me... DO SOMETHING LADY!!! get those people out of the Superdome. you cant talk your way out of this one governor!! i am getting very frustrated...
man, i swear there are tonnnnnns of hotels and stuff that make billions off of customers, surely some nearby cities can offer some help to these civillians. im glad that the astrodome is being offered, heck offer them reliant and toyota center as well, some things are more important than sports. and this is one of them...
Truly devestating...It reminds me of Allison, only with NOLA being below sea level, I knew it would be much worse...
i have family in new orleans that just left yesterday and are staying with my family in houston, just got off the phone with them and they are just so heartbroken, they left everything behind have no idea when they will go back. every so often they just start crying because of all the things they realized is lost and have no idea what hte future holds. they are one of the lucky ones who can afford a place to stay for a month a year but still what do they do about their mail, banks, anything...just horrible really hitting me hard right now....say a prayer for everyone please
