I may get out LATER, but I have to get some work done at the moment. I imagine Rudz will be on my list given the lateness factor. I took a bunch of pics last night. Good stuff.
rockHead - Thanks. Jeff - I was kinda going in the opposite direction in that I didn't want to be out too late. M'Carver really has a nice voice. Anybody who likes a folksy, country sound should check her out. Cosmos was a no-go as apparently all the seats except those at the bar had been reserved. But then I go up to the bar, and there were note cards saying "Reserved" on the empty seats. If this had been a guy I really wanted to see, I suppose I would have stayed, but it wasn't so I left. By the way, hanging out with Jeff at a show is very cool because he is so knowledgeable about music, and he's a fairly nice guy as long as you don't mention Eldon Auker.
LOL! Since we are the mutual admiration society...gwayne is one of the few guys who I trust about music. We have different tastes, but he's open minded aboutt it and if he likes it, even if it isn't my cup of tea, no question whoever it is will be good. I'm still trying to decide. Just finished the last of my work. I'm feeling lazy.
i resemble that remark! the way i see it, if i really want to go to a show i wont let being alone deter me. it might make me get there a little later so im not hangning out alone b/t 2 or 3 set changes though. i usually find a few friends and aquantiances at every show i go too anyway. austin isnt quite as big as houston though (but it is resembling it more and more everyday).
Well, I was easy to find at Rudz, but generally working while I was there. And now I'm in College Station. So, if anyone wants to go watch 1 out of 1,000 really bad John Mayer tribute bands then be sure to....y'know, go alone. Next time I'm in Houston Jeff, we oughta go to a show. I think I still get half-price at Rudyard's By the way - the Mike Haaga/Riverboat Gamblers show on the 27th anniversary was pretty groovy.
Jeff- I'll see you Friday night at Rudz though, right? At least you'll know ONE person (and if you get there early enough I'll know you too!)
Nah, I can top that. Once last season (duh, ROCKETS season) the freaking cable went out in the 1st quarter of the game (I can't quite remember which game, but it had to be a west coast team & a road game, 'cause it was getting late at night). The closest place I could think of to catch the game (and grab a brew) was a local Hooters. I called up about 3 or 4 buddies and told 'em my plan. Bunch of wusses. So I ended up flying solo to a freaking Hooters to catch a Rockets game. Don't think I've ever felt more pathetic than that. Some waitress in a skimpy uniform thinking I'm there to check out her body 'cause I have nothing to go home to. But back to the topic at hand, I go to all sorts of shows. I'd be happy to introduce you to the crew I run with, or shoot I go alone sometimes and could be a good wingman ...
Yep, they were nice enough to list me as a link a while ago. I don't really have any special knowledge about the local music scene. I'm just a fan.
Actually, I'm going to that. It is Deep Ella and a band called The Ruse from New York. The NY band is made up of friends of a friend of mine, so I'll drop by for that. Deep Ella is a better-than-average Buzz-ish alt.rock band. In fact, I gotta start making my list for the weekend.
Muchas gracias. By the way, other than Borski's, does anyone know of any good juke joints up around the Conroe/Woodlands area? I'll be up there for part of this weekend.
Shotgun and the Bayou Dogs are playing Papas on the Lake Saturday. Not exactly a juke joint, and the band isn't a jukejoint blues band, but it's a cool place to hang out at and drain a few cold ones. And the music will be good. http://www.papasonthelake.com/
