Miller had a great month and earned the award, but I am very surprised he won it considering the stats of some of the "name" pitchers out there. Kevin Brown - 3-1 1.03 ERA Mike Hampton - 3-0 2.97 ERA Tom Glavine - 4-1 3.49 ERA Curt Schilling - 3-0 3.29 ERA Rick Reed - 3-1 2.15 ERA Maddux was also impressive with an ERA around 2.50 and 24 K's and only 1 walk, but he was only 2-2. It is satisfying to see that Miller was noticed. ------------------
Miller's stuff is so good it's ridiculous. If I were a betting man I'd put money down that he will throw a no-hitter this year sometime. He's taken a no-hitter into the 5th inning twice already this year. He makes good hitters look really stupid. Maybe this helps to fight the myth that you can't pitch at Enron Field. The fact is, 2/3 of the stadium is pitcher friendly. ------------------
Brown did not get it because he missed his first start with an injury and also left 2 games early with other injuries. CK
Too bad the rest of the staff blows. Lima is not impressing me one iota and should be traded IMO. We can't have a guy that gives up that many HR's pitching in Enron. Hell we, can't have a guy that gives up that many HR's, period! Don't get me wrong, I really wish he was the exciting, dominant pitcher of two years ago, but I just don't think he can return to that level again. ------------------ Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.
Puedlfor -- agreed that many balls fly to left field...but the key is pitching inside and jamming right handed guys so they can't have power pulling to left. I just get so tired of hearing pitchers gripe about Enron. Come on!!! Get the guy to fly to center or the gap in right and you're golden. There have been 2 homeruns in 1 and 1/4 season that went to center at Enron. TWO!!!! Biggio hit one into the power alley between left and center that went out just barely, hitting near the Homerun Pump...but it had to travel well over 400 feet to do that!! There are centerfields in baseball that aren't that deep! Yes it's 315 to left...but how much higher is the wall there then it is in other parks where it's 330 to the wall??? The offensive stats you're seeing in Enron are largely affected by the best power hitting team in baseball (the Astros) who hit homers at home and on the road. 5 in two innings last night!! Come on!! These guys mash and they inflate the offensive numbers that make the national media refer to Enron as Ten-Run Field. ------------------
Now that Kevin Malone has been fired, who else would take Lima ? I say waive his ass. Also, bring up Oswalt and the guys. MadMax, I think some of the guys don't have the stuff to throw inside, I don't know. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? You are right that no team is willing to take on that large salary, unless we package it with someone like a Daryl Ward. It's also easy for us to say "waive his ass", because it's not our money. That's a lot of $ that Drayton has to swallow if he was to waive Lima. Honestly, who among us really thought Lima was going to suck like that after 2 fabulous years? I kept hearing on the radio how these callers claim that "they knew all along that Lima was going to suck", but I don't recall hearing these same people during the time Lima was succeeding. Hopefully our young arms at the AAA can produce similar results as Miller in the coming years.
Certainly don't want to part with Ward. He's gonna be a star. Waving Lima would be tough, and I don't know the money issues involved. Maybe he could go to the bully ? Has his stuff gotten that bad ? I think it's just mental. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." 2/3 of the park is a pitcher's park, but most of the hits are gonna go to left field, where it is not a pitcher's park. As far as the other guys you mentioned, I think only Brown may have a legitimate gripe about it. Did anyone else see that homer he hit? Those Dodger's pitchers hit better than some position players. They oughta move Dreifort to first base. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Join now! The Rockets will be NBA champions. Believe.
Did the Big Unit didn't have a good month ? I agree the Plumber is the only guy with a legit gripe. Wade's stuff is dynamite. Throws 95, and has a curve that breaks from 12 - 6. I think Wade was 4-1. BTW, he apologized for his one "bad" outing, letting his team down. He allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings against Pittsburgh. Not "bad" in this day and age. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." this isnt wade's first year with us right? i seem to remember a game against arizona a couple years back and he was in there and he gave up about 3 home runs in a row. i mean the crowd was jeering him ala ankiel. i think they just called him up from the minors. after watching him that night, i was pleasantly surprised he has improved this much. ------------------ make it stop.
Miller was called up to make an emergency start 2 years ago and did not pitch well. He also pitched a few games in relief. He started 16 games last year and was fairly dominant in September. ------------------
