NPR on hurricane hitting NO Best case: Schools closed for a few weeks Worst case: ??? plan on transferring
Nope, they have to stay. I saw a New Orleans sherriff on Fox News saying "the prisoners will stay where they belong."
This looks like something they've made movies about. On radar, the thing looks like it takes up the whole Gulf. Absolutely crazy.
according to this it is #2 Rank Hurricane Name Year Category Pressure 1 Florida Keys (Labor Day) 1935 5 892 mb * KATRINA 2005 5 907 mb 2 Camille 1969 5 909 mb 3 Andrew 1992 5 922 mb 4 Texas (Indianola) 1886 4 925 mb 5 Florida Keys 1919 4 927 mb 6 FL (Lake Okeechobee) 1928 4 929 mb 7 Donna 1960 4 930 mb 8t Unnamed (New Orleans LA) 1915 4 931 mb 8t Carla (N & Cent. my dad was in Gulf port when camille hit and he said it just picked up BUILDINGs and threw them. he said there were bodys all over the place. He was apart of the military(Navy) and he said they had to get in the basement of a bank and when it was over the bank was GONE on top. AND this is stronger. This thing looks like a buzz saw
For what its worth, they issued a mandatory evacuation of the city this time, and they've never had to do that before. Thus, I would say that they're more fearful this time around... even though Ivan was predicted to hit dead-on as well, and only veered off right at the last hour. Perhaps the mandatory evacuation is due to, in part, them being very fortunate last year that Ivan changed its course. They know they dodged the big one with a last second repreive, and the chance of that same thing happening again twice in two years could be just that much more unlikely.
There are people in the french quarter hanging out and drinking. They just interviewed some idiot on fox news saying that they are staying and that the levees will protect them. Natural Selection?
What's on it? I can't get it to work. I get a little white square with a tiny red square, green circle and a blue triangle in it.
they have web cames all around NO and snap shots. The one thing is that the city is a ghost town but NO rain. what a fake sense of hope
did you hear them talk about the poisoness snakes that are going to be every where? that is crazy and image when the water gos over the leves there be gators in downtown NO running around looking for food.
Winds 165 MPH and intensity at 904 mb. weakened a little. But still headed to New Orleans. New Orleans will be under 30 ft water tommorow this time.
