Olowokandi out? Aug 26 - According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said there has been some talk about trading center Michael Olowokandi. However, Taylor said he couldn't see that happening unless the Wolves picked up another big man. HTML: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors Looking over the TWolves roster... after (willingly) losing Spree and Cassel to free agency, they only have Hasell (pg), Hudson (pg), Jaric (sg), McCants (sg) and Wright (sg) on their roster. Obviously an area in need of an upgrade. I am not even considering salaries... but I wonder at the potential of a Wesley/Vin Baker trade of Olowokandi? This would be the two for one that we are looking for and would free up some of the glut at the guard position. It would also give us a solid big to play the 4/5 at the bottom of our rotation. Would the Wolves do this...? I am not sure. But they could use the guard help, Wesley is a solid pro (water to the oil of Spree/Cassel) and Baker could have some... uh... gas left in the tank. Thoughts... other than Peterson you suck!?
Olowokandi wouldn't make any sense here. Maybe for next year or the year after that, but the Rockets just re-signed Dikembe Mutumbo for two years. Just wait until Kandi underachieves with his next team and pick him up for 2007. I see where you're coming from, though - this team's too good. We do need somebody to b**** about.
What doesn't make sense is that we have two players in our 4/5 rotation that have major health/age/injury issues in Howard and Deke. If this season is the season to make a major push... we need to have more depth than Vin Baker and Spaz as our backup forwards.
I agree with that, but Olowokandi isn't very reputable for his durability either. You have to get lucky with injuries to win a championship regardless. Plus, trading Wesley and not getting a SG back leaves us with the oft-injured DA and a couple of old white guys at that position.
If we trade Wesley for a scrub injury replacement like Kandi, we lose depth in our aging, injury prone backcourt. We'd be better off just keeping Wesley than trading him for Olowokandi and messing with chemistry.
Kandi would be a servicable backup at C if we didn't have Deke, but since we do, trading our starting SG for a 3rd string C wouldn't make too much sense.
You serious? Baker/Wesley for Kandi, you wouldn't do that? It wouldn't hurt to add another big man and subtract a guard.
I would see Kandi as C-PF ala Kelvin Cato. Just another big body to throw against a Western Conference loaded with talented PFs. And we do need more froncourt depth, as of now it's just Swift and JH at PF in the rotation.
Kandi is such a pathetic, lazy, underachieving joke it isn't even funny. Yeah, Baker resembles that remark to a degree, but at least he has had success. Kandi is just sad. Garnett did everything he could to fire the guy up and he STILL is worthless. As far as dumping contracts, I guess I would deal Wesley and Baker. I can see it. I just don't like Kandi.
Kandi would be KILLED by power forwards in the west. He can't guard the four to save his life. He would be a third-string back up at center, something we don't really need.
Why do so many people think that we should get rid of Wesley for scrap? He's durable, and can shoot and defend pretty well. Sura and Anderson are injury prone, Barry is old and can't play D, James is your classic SG in a PG's body, and Head is just a rookie. Why can't people see that keeping Wesley around might be a good idea. Sure if we can trade him in for an upgrade then we do it. But a solid part of our guard rotation for a fifth big man who will only see time if someone goes down? Not to mention the fact that Kandi is a career underacheiver that has still never gotten a big NBA contract and will undoubtedly want to showcase himself instead of being parked on the bench as insurance. Kandi isn't going to be happy here. There's any number of guys in the league that are used to sitting on the bench and coming in for mop up duty. Heck any of the former Rockets like Pig Miller or Alton Ford can fill that role as good as anybody. Or what about Calvin Booth who just got amnesty cut. Why would we give up pieces for Kandi, when we can pick us somebody just as effective for the minimum.
The Kandiman is completely worthless and can only play C. We already have Yao/Deke/Swift at C. We need another frontcourt body at PF, which Kandi can't play. Wesley is a valued player. To our team, Kandi is worth about the same as Spoon.
Kandi is mentally weak... I'd rather use Baker... He used to be a very effective SEcretary of state..
Kandi is TERRIBLE! Complete waste! He is slow, unmotivated and shows no heart. Stay away from him! The Wolves are just lucky he only signed a 3 year MLE deal with them and didnt get more. Kandi makes Cato look like Ben Wallace.
