Sadly, VERY SADLY, they are both from the Northeast, where everybody creams over the Cowboys. Rich: Brooklyn, NY Vanderbeek: Boston, MA You know, the sad part is, it isn't like there isn't anyone in Houston who coudn't do their jobs. For instance, one of our fellow Posters (T Rex) used to do sports talk in, of all places, Connecticut. The pay wasn't what he wanted, so he came back home. Now he's a stockbroker. Note to 610: Hire people who grew up watching our sports teams from our town. I highly doubt there's a sports guy in New York or Boston who grew up in Houston.
I don't necessarily need someone who grew up in Houston to talk about Houston sports, but I would like people who aren't hacks. Rich Lord makes me long for the Kenny Hand show and I liked that about us much as kidney stones. I want to know who's brother-in-law Rich Lord is to still have a job in radio. Seriously. When I left Houston I felt good about never having to hear him again. I gave him another go when streaming started and I think he has actually regressed and dragged Vandemeer down with him. I don't think he has ever made a point about sports that made sense. In fact, I can't remember him making a point about sports that didn't either bore me to the death or make me hate all of humanity. Dave Kindred looks like talkshow Jesus compared to these dorks.
Or just find some replacements. I was never really a Charlie P. fan until these two dweebs fell into the drive time slot. Now I'm a HUGE Charlie P. fan. Kick 'em to the curb.
Gee, you would think it would be nice if our local sports radio actually hired local Houston guys, don't you think? Marc and Rich are the WORST, even wayyyyy before the Dallas vs. Houston thing that they keep talking about, and they have completely wrong. WTF is there in Dallas that I am 'jealous' of? You kidding me!!!!
"I gave him another go when streaming started and I think he has actually regressed and dragged Vandemeer down with him. I don't think he has ever made a point about sports that made sense. In fact, I can't remember him making a point about sports that didn't either bore me to the death or make me hate all of humanity." I used to like listening to Vandermeer's show when he had the morning pre-Rome spot. I agree with the "Rich dragged Vandermeer down" line. Marc was goofy, but he at least talked about sports and actually seemed to know some sports aside from his favorite teams.
It is abundantly clear how much Palillo was the true driving force of the show when he was partnered with Rich Lord. The litmus test is that Charlie can do a very good show by himself day after day, and Rich Lord (even when partnered with someone to play off of) flounders horribly.
Rich Lord flat out sucks. This is the same guy who thinks everyone is jealous of him and wants to be him because we don't have his job, so naturally we are all jealous of Dallas. The guy cannot talk Rockets basketball at all, and when he attempts to he sounds very lost. I can say without a doubt that just about every poster on this board has more knowledge on the Rockets than that guy. He can't take criticism at all, when someone calls up and asks for some sports talk after he has been talking about music, movies, everything else other than what he's paid to, he gets defensive and claims he's just bringing some variety to the show. If I wanted variety I'd listen to a different radio station, but when I tune in to a sports talk station I expect to hear sports talk, not a debate on who's the greatest guitar player. CP carried Lord's ass for a couple of years and he is far better off without the deadweight. Vandermeer has gone down, but it wasn't much a a fall. I still don't understand how the play-by-play guy for the Texans got his own radio show on the station to begin with. If Vandermeer is talking football, I listen, he even has some insight on baseball, but when he starts talking basketball, his IQ drops a couple of points. And whoever gave this guy the nickname "The Voice" needs to have their ass kicked, that sounds so stupid. IMO, 610 has dropped a couple of notches in the past couple of years. The one saving grace has been the pairing of Matt and Adam, they put on a good show. They go off on tangents every now and then, but they know their sports and can back it up.
Ding. Ding. We have a winner. I was too tired to articulate my thoughts on this a minute ago, so I'm glad Jared just followed up and hit it out of the park. I can't add anything to that.
matt and adam have the best show. too bad they are at night, and they have stupid comets game, and sometimes longhorn games. i guess i can deal with horn games, i just hate the mack brown show.
Calling Lakewood a proper Church is like calling the WWE (or WWF) a proper fighting competition. At any rate...Dallas. Hmm. Jealous? Hell no. 19-10.
Really Chance, pray for better team mates there at the station. We need some home grown talk hosts. I like Jeremy, Matt, Adam and sometimes Lance (when he talks football) the rest are sad. Leave Mark V. on the Texans game. Send Rich back to NY And John G can fill in vacation slots.
Please!!!!!!!! Yeah, we are jealous of city that is best known for hosting the whacking of a President.
I've just about given up on Mark and Rich. You should have heard them yesterday trying to talk about fantasy football. Someone called in and asked who the top 5 players were in fantasy football that he should try to draft. Rich told him to draft the 5 best quarterbacks. They are unlistenable. I'd love to see Adam and Matt get moved into the drivetime slot, doubt it will happen though.
I'm with Chance 100% on that. It's more self-help and positive thinking than anything religious. Other guys write books and go on self-help tours doing this same kind of thing. The only main differences? They don't get a television show broadcast worldwide because they don't loosely associate some kind of religion to their message. And they pay taxes.
I'm now your official parrot-boy Max...how sad that I have lost my posthood... I TOO had the same expereince while attending UNT in Denton...Metroplex fans are embittered and cynical but mostly live to disparge Houston at ALL costs: climate, sports, money(gooood one), and traffic. Whith sports writers like Randy Galloway--whom you will see on every other billboard between Dallas and Ft Worth--how can the fans NOT be egotistical crybabies with enromous chips on their small-man-syndrome shoulders?
And Houston isn't? Heck, half the people in this city are not even from this country. I don't think any of that really matters. I live in Houston now, but I've lived in Dallas several times throughout my life and have never experienced the anti Houston treatment that some of you discuss. I will never enjoy watching Dallas' sports teams, but I enjoy the city of Dallas more than Houston. The weather is better, the air is cleaner, the city is better kept, they fix the roads faster, the land is better. I can go on but opinions will vary. It does seem like some Houstonians have an iferiority complex. Whether that's due to certain media exposure or what have you, I don't know, but it does seem that way with some people.
