AUBURN HILLS, MI - The Detroit Pistons announced today that the club has signed restricted free-agent swingman Maurice Evans to an offer sheet. Under the rules of the new collective bargaining agreement, Sacramento has seven days to match the Pistons’ offer.
During the 2004-05 season, Evans averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 19.0 minutes, playing in 65 games (11 starts) for the Sacramento Kings. He shot 44.2% (165-373 FG) from the field and 32.9% (27-82 FG) from three-point range. In three first round playoff games with the Kings, Evans averaged 6.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 18.7 minutes per game.

Evans began his career in Minnesota during the 2001-02 NBA season. In 10 games with the Timberwolves, he averaged 2.1 points in 4.5 minutes per game during his rookie season. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound swingman has played in 75 career NBA games and averaged 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 44.4% from the field.

I doubt Kings match it since they now have Bonzi Wells and Fransisco Garcia.

    And Kevin Martin.

Well, it looks like Joe Dumars is picking right back where he left off in building a great team. Evans and Ronald Dupree are two excellent young players to have towards (but not AT) the end of the bench. Both can come in and play solid D, each in spot duty (like Dupree did last year) or in case of injury.

    Good signing.

So I guess Sprewell is out of the picture for Detroit.

maurice evans doesn't suck. he isn't a great player but a good role player who i wish the rockets would look at serisouly. good for him though if he does indeed end up with a nice contract in detriot. he's a UT product who should have stayed in school but has still done pretty well for himself despite taking the long road to the league.

not just players, but front-court players specifically. so much for larry brown being outed to make room for darko, who could be on his way out.

I would've preferred him to DA.

I like Mo Evans. I think this is a good signing for Detroit. So with their MLE they pick up Evans and Dale Davis. Not bad. I still think the team needs some offense from the bench though. But Evans is a nice player and at 1.5M per season that is a good value.
