I love Dubai. It's such an awesome city, it's one of our favorite places to escape to while in Dhahran. (that and Baharain)

After seeing all these photos, I see a Sci-Fi Channel Pictures movie or mini-series...complete with mayhem, chaos and diaster...in our near future.

Dubai is about as safe as any city in the world. It is by far my most favorite city. I wish I had enough money to buy a house on one of those islands. I'd do it in a sec.

Maybe they could flood the Astrodome and build something similar there.

Dude, look at a globe before you say this. .....you have any idea what body of water the UAE touchs? PERSIAN GULF.

Tsunamis, Hurricanes, hell even Typhoons are VERY unlikely.

EDIT: 'DOH! Damn you Kingcheetah! :p

Yah, a tsunami will pass over the subcontinent and slam Dubai!

If you have seen the Gulf, the water is so still, not even a wave in site, it's almost like it's a man-made lake. In fact, I used to get pissed off when I lived in Saudi because of that very reason, especially after I had visited Alexandria (Egypt) on the raging Midetarrenean Sea :D

Seriously though, if you have lots of money and want to be 'awed', go to Dubai. It's really amazing what the Emiratis are doing to their little country, should be an example to every single country in the region there. They are attracting global investments and are doing great.

As for safety, much safer than Houston or any other American city, that much I can assure you of.

Name me one major American city that is safer.

Maybe the water nearby the UAE has more 'activity', but where I lived in Saudi it was DEAD. We used to go to the 'kournish' all the time in Jubail too...Ahh, man those were the days :(

BTW, do you live in Saudi now? If so, I heard it has topped 50 nearby Kuwait(celsius), is that true?!
