Tom Thibodeau is in Beijing checking on Yao. He will be there for another week or so. Gundy can be a real pain in the azz. :D

Oh and here's a translation courtesy of Pryuen on the RealGM board.

Here's a pic of Yao talking with Falsone, and Thibodeau.

I'm glad he's playing with the NT. Good luck Yao.

So the bone spur was an actual ailment for him? I hope he can come back to the NBA and play with full force.

    Yao got even slower?

Was this ankle surgery really necessary?

Look at it this way, at least he got some rest this year...from the end of the playoffs until now...thats more time off than he has had in years.

The style of sports writing is quite different between the East and West. Lost in translation seems to be inevitable.

“Just look at the camera” (quote from the movie Lost in Translation).

When the practices reached the last session -- body conditioning, Yao, who was with team throughout the practice, looks tired.

The players were divided into two teams to have a sprint drill on a 28-meter-long basketball court. Yao was grouped with other big guys including Yi, Tang, Mo and Wang. Falsone demanded the players to finish the sprint with 12 seconds. In the first sprint, surprisingly, the last on crossed the line was Yao rather than Tang, who was deemed as the slowest player in the team. After marginally met the requirement, Yao walked toward Falsone and told him that his ankle can not hold on much longer. The coaches took a look and advised Yao to icy the ankle immediately and stop the training for now. Hu Jia, the associate director of the Basketball Association also approached Yao and asked for his condition. “It has been a while since I had a drill like this, I expect this will happen”, Yao replied with a smile.

The reporter asked Yao whether stamina was the issue since he has not been practiced for an extended period of time. Yao replied that his stamina was not an issue. Yao breathed calmly, wearing the Rockets Jersey socked with sweats. Yao also said that he rehabilitated well last few weeks and he had no problem to run or jump, but the only thing bothers him was the ankle. Two pieces of pea size brownish scar on both sides of his ankle were quite visible after Yao removed his socks.

A special scene had happened in the drill. Yao received the ball in low post one on one with Tang on his back. Yao turned to shoot but his left arm was hold off (by Tang) thus limited his jump. His shot by his right hand was slap down by Tang. Yao smiled and patted Tang’s shoulder for encouragement. After this incidence, Yao took more hook shots than faced the baskets in the next few possessions.

“I still can not exert much force on my ankle. It is not so obvious in the solo practice but I definitely felt it during the team practice. There isn’t much time left (for the Asian Game) and I have to adapt the intensity quickly”, Yao said. Then Yao took the ice bags from the team doctor Du and dexterously wrapped them on both sides of his left ankle.

The practice was over by that time. Yao limped to the center court to join the teammates and stood next to the coach. The captain Li chanted “Team China!” as the team gathered. “Go!”, Yao’s deep coarse voice was heard.

Asian game? The Chinese team can still easily take the "Asian title" without Yao. Yao should be here practicing with TMac for their unstoppablee pick n roll.

I watched the CNT played against Australia NT without Bogut in Perth 2 weeks ago. Sad to say, CNT without Yao is just a bunch of scrubs, the kid Yi JianLian from i saw, doesnt improve at all compared to last summer Olympics. He worth at most a second round pick not second pick to me. Without Yao, the koreans can easily beat the CNT, hey, even the japanese, when get hot, can beat this bunch of scrubs, if anyone cares.... :(

Maybe they will need to learn the lesson the hard way by losing to the Japanese and Koreans and finally figure out how to play like a team. Without Yao to bail them out, this team might finally reach their potential. I saw some games, these guys are not scrubs, they are all pretty gifted athelets. Chinese national team is not gonna contend for a medal for the 2008 Olympic the way they are not improving and always rely on Yao Ming.

Didn't Grant Hill ruin his career by coming back early from ankle surgery?
