I never realised hakeem was so high on this list-i knew he was an offensive force, but i always assumed he was around 10 or 11. An amazing feat for such an unselfish player. He was also #7 all time in steals -the man is a center!!-i truly believe he has been unappreciated by NBA media and should be mentioned along side with the jordans, magics, birds, wilts and russels-he might not have changed the game from a marketing perspective-but he changed the center position forever. Sorry, just found it surprising. *interesting side note----In 166 less games, michael jordan managed to take 3546 more shots than Hakeem....
I think he also booked 2 quad-doubles. I'm sure somebody else can correct me on that. Does anybody have stats if Hakeem is on an "all-time" list for that?
Officially only 1 quad-double because he got robbed of a block or something. Later review of tape showed he got it but they couldn't change stat.
"Hakeem Olajuwon has gone beyond All-Star or even MVP status to rank now among the very greatest players at any position who have ever played the game." -- Bob Costas
use away. he said it immediately following the 1995 championship. i was in the KRBE suite looking down on the action at the Summit...and listening to them do the post-game show on NBC. amazing. a moment i'll never forget.
whats even more impressive than that, is he his #7 all-time in steals.\ The next closes C is at #39 (D-Rob).
I'm not surprised. Hakeem had a great sense about when the team needed him to take over and when it would be better if he kept his teammates invovled. T-Mac seems to have that, too. And in my opinion, Yao's lack of that sense is the biggest thing separating him from true greatness -- even more so than his lack of physical aggression.
Forget Amare and Lebron, a young Dream right now would rock the NBA world. He was the most gifted athlete to play center on both ends of the court and all that at 6'-10.5"
My brother saw him outside his builiding downtown yesterday morning...He said he said hi and waved and Hakeem Smiled...sweet...No pics or autograph as he had nothing... On a side note, I saw Nate Newton and Brown (Superbowl MVP CB?) of the Cowboys at my g/f vball game...not near the caliber of Hakeem, but sports in general...
how about living in the stone age History is history. True NBA fans should enjoy the greatness of the past AND current players.
LOL talking about all time stats. David Wesley made top 30 all time in one stat category, can anyone guess what it is ? And do you guys think Kevin Willis will "eventually" be no.1 in every stats ?
#1 all-time in blocks #7 all-time in points #7 all-time in steals #11 all-time in rebounds (just a few away from being top 10) #1 all-time in playoff blocks (and #1 in blocks per game, beating #2 eaton 3.26 to 2.84) #8 all-time in playoff points #11 all-time in playoff steals (and the 3 guys just ahead of him played way more games) #11 all-time in playoff rebounds yeah i'd say he was pretty good.
would yall have drafted hakeem or MJ if u had a chance to do the draft over again? knowing how MJ came out, i still would pick hakeem but if he had jordan....
