Finley used to be my favorite Guard(years ago). I would love to have him. however i do not think we will get him.
Finley would start at the SG spot for the Rockets and Wesley would be extremely tradable (since Barry would be the backup) Sura/James Fin/Barry Tmac/Bowen Stro/JH Yao/Deke
We could offer Finley the LLE (1.67M) this year and then tell him we will "take care of him" next summer. What does this mean, we will give him the MLE for 3 years next summer. This deal compared to getting the MLE for 4 years is only about 2.3M in total different in his pocket. Now if Cuban is paying games with his buyout/stretched payment plan then is could be a different story. Cuban has every right to negotiate the terms of the buyout and to give better terms on the 10 year contract payout. If Cuban offers a normal payout over 3 years for going to an Eastern team this could mean an extra 5M or so to him.
Does the new CBA only allow a team to use MLE every other year. We used it on Swift this year, which means we cant use it until 2008
The bright side of the 10 year deal is that he's guaranteed not to be broke within that period of time. You never know how people are with their money or mitigating circumstances that seem to arise.
He should definetly go. We should entice Finley with a location close to home, and a starting spot. The Spurs dont have a starting spot for him and neither do the Pistons. If he came here, things would start falling in to place quickly. Work your MAGIC CD!
Are you kidding? The summer weather is much more welcoming in northern cities where you can actually bear to be outdoors without being in a swimming pool, but the WINTER weather is definitely more welcoming in Texas, and basketball is a winter sport, so...yeah, Houston is a great basketball weather city.
I don't understand, I thought if they were cut under the Amnesty rule, as he was, that the former team still paid them the salary owed, and that they (the old team) gets back a [big] percentage of the new contract? If that's the case, why would he care so much what the new contract was worth, as he would be getting the whole amount of the old one anyway? I must be completely lost in all this
ok just a clarification...i think jonathan feigen said on 610 yesterday that the moneys all the same..it just differs as to what he gets up front...he doesnt get his 51 million + 5 million or whatever his new contract entails...cuban fronts whatever his contract doesnt cover....so over the life of the contract, the moneys all the same, just changes how much he gets now- dunno if nebody posted this already, or if its true, just what feigan said yesterday. Basically that just means we have that much better of a chance of getting him imho.
