Need a recommendation or web site: He wants to shoot kids riding horses at shows with a digital. But his current shutter speed is too low. He wants to get them jumping, riding, plenty of action shots. Will need to take at least 100-400 shots per night. Also needs to be able transfer files from camera to disk to printer and print on site so that the kids can get their photos fast. any thoughts or suggestions or place to check out on the web Willing to spend around $1,000 -$1,500 Thanks in advance.
Yeah I bet he wants it for some action shots. He's going to put up a new website. http://www.phislammajammasmom.com Sorry man, couldnt help it.
i just bought a kodak easyshare Z7590 and it has a lot of shutter speed options. also, there is a function where you can just hold the button down and it will take like 2 or 3 pictures per second as long as you have the button down. it has 5 megapixels, and if you want to spend that kind of money you could get a 1 gig card for it. of course, that camera is only like 400 or so, so you might be able to find something even better.
Wow. You've just presented the ultimate laundry list. Action shots. At night (indoors or not, it is still low light). And at horse shows....where the "action" will be a considerable distance from the lens. You could try something like a Canon S2 IS which has a long lens and image stabilization, but even with IS compensating for something like one f-stop, it will still probably be too slow of a lens for what you want. You really need a D SLR with a good, long fast lens..........like a Canon EF 400MM F/2.8L IS. Of course, the lens alone will set you back about seven grand. Go to www.dpreview.com to get recommendations for cameras. He really nees a fast lens with a long zoom.........in that order.
This thread is useless without pictures. http://www.dcresource.com shows comparisons and reviews. I own this one: Fuji FinePix S5100. 5MP, 10x Digital zoom, 10 photo modes. ~ 300 @ Worst Buy. Would you like for me to show you some of my pictures? Action, then Zoomed
If he's an exerienced, elite photo nut, he'll need DSLR. If not, and if he just wants point-and-click, a DSLR may be overkill DSLR's are mucho dinero and unless he's gonna sell his pictures for profit, I don't see how it can be a good investment. My little Canon A70 has an "action" setting that does a fine job.
Sure. you can send your pictures to me, post somewhere, or post right here. It would be interesting to see the shots and possible differences. cweir13@asam.org He does plan on selling the photos, but doubt he could justify a $7,000 dollar camera. He could probably justify 2 or 3 grand at most. He's not a camera nut, but learns quickly, and is willing to learn the right way to take the photograph using the manual settings. But does need to learn some things.
My brother has this one and it's the one YOU need: http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/fuji/finepix_s7000-review/ ~ $700 (make sure you click the MACRO Mickey and the City pictures to see what you need). I have the S5100, and I paid about $300. Check out MY pics above. Imageshack doesn't let me put up a picture higher than 1024 KB, so I put up a 200KB one. Still looks "aight" for what you need, but the S7000 is more than what will satisfy your needs.
If he's willing to pay that, he can get the Nikon D70, a second good lens (maybe a 70-300 Nikor ED) and the Speedlight 600 flash. That will handle any kind of stop action you need. If he wants to go a little higher, he could get a VR lens to really help. I freakin' love my D70.
Jeff what do you think about the Canon EOS 20D digital SLR. I ended up getting a brand new one for $600 bucks since my friend sold it to me it was retail $1700 but i have yet to open it up and actually use it. Wondering what you thought of it. I have read only good reviews about it and i always wanted an SLR and for the price i don't htink anyone would have passed it up.
For $600, that's a great deal. I just prefer the optics in the Nikon cameras to virtually everything else. Their attention to detail is just ridiculous and I'm also pretty brand loyal when it comes to my cameras. There is nothing wrong with the Canon. It's a good digital SLR for sure.
I read the review in the Pop Photography I got in the mail yesterday. Looks very cool, sort of a poor man's D70 (which is, of course, a poor man's D1). It is missing a few of the features that I really like on the D70 (backlit LCD chief among them - trying taking pictures in a dark club without it!), but it would be a great starter SLR considering it's price and the company.
