Does anyone know for a FACT how many surgeries DA has had and where they were needed?

I've always liked the guy and if he comes cheap, that's all good, but I don't want some guy who is ultra injury prone.

I believe he's had three surgeries. One on each knee (torn ACL in college, torn medial meniscus in 2003 playoffs), and oral surgery last year. He didn't need surgery on his shoulder from the JHo flagrant foul.

Age-wise, I would prefer us to get Derek Anderson. Just one SG signing, a 2 for 1 trade for a PG (whoever it is) and some additional extras (Baxter or Glover) and we'll be set...

Man, only 2 knee surgeries...unless he's got some degenerative condition w/ his knees, DA should be ok. I guarantee u, THE MAN (Dr. Lowe) will check all that out. If we end up signing DA, rest assured, his health shouldn't be a problem.

About half of his time missed was due to back spasms/pain - he kept trying to rush back. The other half was the odd triple root canalsinus infection surgeries that plagued him for a little over a month.

I love DA as a backup 2/3 for us. As long as he is logging fewer than 25 minutes, I don't think durability will be too much of an issue.

Derek Anderson is the guy I want, maybe even more than Michael Finley. Finley is a good player, but at this stage of their respective careers, the only advantage he has over Anderson is that he is a household name. They are both guaranteed to miss a large portion of the season and both shot the 3 at around the same clip. When healthy, he's a better slasher and is quicker than Finley. Derek Anderson was always one of my favorite players in the NBA, back when he was with Cleveland, but he has never been able to stay healthy and that has cut into what was a promising career. His body just couldn't take his reckless style from those early years. He was the Spurs' "big answer" to Kobe Bryant but that never quite materialized thanks to a guy named Juwon Howard. I would be ecstatic with either he or Finley. Say no to Sprewell.

    Anderson to visit the Rockets
Veteran shows interest despite limit on salary
    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

A day after carving out a roster spot with a tax amnesty cut, the Rockets took a small step toward filling it with another player released in a luxury-tax deduction — versatile veteran Derek Anderson.

The Rockets showed interest in Anderson as soon as he was released Aug. 3 by the Trail Blazers but had been considered at a disadvantage when competing with the Lakers, Pistons and Timberwolves. Those teams could offer all or part of their $5 million, mid-level exceptions.

Anderson will visit the Rockets later this week, said his agent, Tony Dutt.

"We have talked a lot with the Rockets about Derek, and we are going to meet with them later this week," Dutt said. "Then we will have everybody done and can lay it all out and make a decision."

Anderson has visited the Lakers and Timberwolves and has spoken extensively with the Pistons and Heat.

The Rockets can offer only their smaller salary-cap exception worth $1.67 million.

But the Trail Blazers still must pay Anderson the $18.84 million left on his contract, possibly making Anderson more willing to accept an offer such as the Rockets', which would be worth much less than offers from other teams.

Players cut with guaranteed contracts cannot double dip. But because teams that release players can spread out the payments, salary from those players' new teams would mean more initial income.

Anderson, 31, has averaged 13.1 points on 41.1-percent shooting and 34.3-percent 3-point shooting in eight seasons with the Cavaliers, Spurs, Clippers and Blazers.

Robert Gist, the agent for free agent Latrell Sprewell, indicated in comments to the Associated Press that Sprewell could soon be choosing between the Rockets and Pistons.

Gist said two of Sprewell's former coaches, the Rockets' Jeff Van Gundy and Pistons' Flip Saunders, had contacted Sprewell, but he did not indicate whether Van Gundy spoke to Sprewell before or since the Rockets signings that have filled the roster.

"If you look at teams like Miami, Detroit and Houston, they're all one player away from reaching the NBA Finals," Gist said. "I think it speaks well of Latrell that two of his former coaches want him on their teams. Latrell is the one bargain that's out there right now."

Sprewell averaged a career-low 12.8 points last season for the Timberwolves.

Sprewell, who will be 35 when the season starts, has averaged 18.3 points on 42.5-percent shooting in 12 seasons with the Warriors, Knicks and Timberwolves.

Before last season, he turned down a three-year, $21 million contract extension offer to remain with the Timberwolves.

"The mid-level is not an insult to Latrell, but his value is higher than the mid-level," Gist said.

If we can add spree and DA, we would pretty much be set for the season.

JVG has already added a rookie and a player under 25. He has had enough for one summer. Lets give him credit for the progress that he made and let him have one for himself.

    cable,

I just want to point out that you are referencing the old CBA FAQ..I cant imagine that they would change the clause you are referring to much...but it is possible so I wouldnt say it is definitive just yet.

The good thing about Derrick Anderson is he's got experience giving up the ball to a big man, and getting the ball back late in the clock.

When Portland started clearing out the bad guys two years ago, he was considered one of the good guys. He had some spat with Cheeks when they tanked after the Wallace deal. I don't think he ever got on with Zach Randolph - who is a punk, by all accounts. Prior to that, he was generally considered a good guy in the locker room.

His savvy would be good in 20 minutes or less, splitting time with a stocky defender.

I like DA, he is a character guy. He's probably one of the only blazers that never got into trouble. Rome had him on a few years back and he has an amazing story of how he came up. I think he had a kid when he was 14 or something like that and he took on the responsibility and made something out of his life for his family despite overwhelming odds.

I haven't see him play the past couple seasons cause I don't usually watch blazers games but if he is still 80% of what he used to be than that's not bad for a short term. He has playoff experience with the SPurs.

The more I hear about DA the more I like. I cant really remember anything sticking out about the guy which could be a good thing. If he still has some speed and can knock down the outside shot lets do it.

Wasn't there something about DA being a malcontent in San Antonio? I thought that's why they got rid of him but I may be way off on this.
