    These players were waived:

    Wesley Person (Heat)
    Calvin Booth (Bucks)
    Ron Mercer (Nets)
    Jermoe Williams (Knicks)

    ...and...

    What's this??!?

"Toronto Raptors Designated center Alonzo Mourning their amnesty player."

    ?? Wasn't he on the Heat? I don't understand.

    Also...

Dallas sure has been quiet about Michael Finley. I wonder what they're up to. There's no way they're stupid enough to be stuck with his contract and pay the luxury tax, but they haven't waived him, either. Very curious!

Zo was bought out and had some of his contract on the Raptors cap. Now they don't have to pay tax for a guy that isn't on the team anymore.

I think because Mourning was released by the Raptors, they are still paying him (minus what he makes in Miami) and he still counts against their cap. It's much the same way that Matt Maloney's salary counted against the Rockets' cap for years and years after he was released.
The Raptors can at least escape the luxury tax horrors of Mourning's contract, so this was an obvious choice.

Give it 56 more minutes. Some teams are going to wait until the last second.

LOL - I bet every GM in the league is on the phone right now. It's almost like draft day.

We must get the Mayor. Sure, he fills the same role as Barry, but you can never have too many shooters.

Isn't he undergoing some major heart surgery and won't be able to play this season?

So does this mean the "amnesty rule" will not go down in history as the Allan Houston rule?

I could see Jerome Williams, Eddie Robinson or Fred Hoiberg here.

He was bought out by Chicago, then proceeded to fail his physical with the Knicks. I think he tried sticking with some other low tier squads, but am pretty sure he's out of the league. Health aside, that kid established himself as an all-NBA cancer pretty early in his career.

Kudos for so many teams using the amnesty rule on dead contracts instead of buying out usable players. Pretty sharp, getting some savings at no loss.

Williams is the only one I would look closely at, Hoiberg may very well be done because of his heart. I think the Rockets are dead set at improving the guard position, though.

Guess it will go down as the Michael Finley rule.
