Source? If it's true, I'm not surprised. He's a victim of his own contract. And with Swift, there shouldn't be many minutes for him. I don't think he'll be greatly missed on this board.
Why all the love for Spoon all of a sudden? He is going to be 35, scored 3 points per game, made way too much money and only played in 40 games. I doubt the team will miss him on the court. Locker room might be a different story, but I've never been in there.
Does anyone know, since the contract still hits the salary cap, can his salary cap hit still be used in a trade?
yes it still hits the cap and no it can't be traded I was hoping we cut Baker, if only because then he would be cut twice under this provision (Boston did it too!!)
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nba&id=2135177 The Houston Rockets on Monday waived veteran forward Clarence Weatherspoon under the NBA's amnesty clause. Teams had until Monday to invoke the amnesty clause, a one-time provision in the new collective bargaining agreement that allows teams to release players without their guaranteed salaries counting against the luxury tax. Weatherspoon was scheduled to make $6.3 million in 2005-06. Acquired in December 2003 from the New York Knicks, Weatherspoon averaged 3.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 40 games with the Rockets last season. "These types of moves are never easy," Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said. "This decision was made in order to give us more financial flexibility under terms of the new collective bargaining agreement." Weatherspoon, who turns 35 in September, was a first-round pick of Philadelphia in 1992. He has career averages of 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 915 games.
it should read: Weatherspoon, who turns 35 in September, was a first-round pick of Philadelphia in 1992. He has career averages of 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 456 lbs, in 915 games
Well in previous offseasons we've argued about whether or not Les would go into Luxury-Tax-Land and now that he almost did (or did, and still might again) Spoon being gone isn't surprising. I'm happy for Spoon though. 6 mil. to ride off in the sunset with is quite good.
