There's nothing about this trailer that makes me want to rush out and see it. http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/doom/large.html
What will this movie be about? Just a guy on a alien planet killing everything i sight? That will be one deep well thought story. (why do they have to make amovie about every computergame? i do not know one movie that was made after the computergame that was actually good)
Yeah, my hopes aren't that high for this movie. It looks pretty bad. I didn't think Doom had much of a story in the first place, but they may make the movie have even less of one. The only good think I read about the movie is something about a 10-minute first person view segment. That might be a little interesting, although it won't help the movie much. Some did ok. Tomb Raider was all right IMO, as was Mortal Kombat (the first one). Most of the rest did suck though, and I still can't get over the fact that FF:The Spirits Within cost $137M to make and only grossed like $85M worldwide. I think there is this one director who is seemingly trying to cash in on all these games by making them into movies (Uwe Boll I think) Anyways, I think he made Alone in the Dark and is making Bloodrayne, House of the Dead, and a few others. From the looks of it, these will be low-budget movies that just try to cash in on their name. Hopefully, that doesn't happen to all movies based on games. There are some movies in production based on great games that I don't want to see tarnished. FF7:AC will be out in September, Silent Hill is being filmed right now IIRC, and I think there are plans to make games based on Metal Gear Solid and Halo, although they're in the early stages I believe. I also heard something about a God of War movie as well. I think Sony also gave the greenlight for 2 more Resident Evil movies; hopefully they can pull a Resident Evil 4 with these two movies. And there's probably a few more that I'm forgetting.
Instead of making a movie based on a computer game, they should just make the movie show the computer game. Just film 2+ hours of people playing against each other in competition. It's almost the same thing really... no plot.. decent special effects.. the bonus is that it's cheaper to make.
from what I have heard there is some 1st person viewpoint action in the film which looks alot like the video except there are live action ascepts to it. They have tried to make the monsters look like the video game. I think it will be worth a look.
Man, the 13-year-old inside of me is having a wet dream with this movie! (I didn't realize it was possible to make a movie that looks 100x worse than Hellboy)
I'm holding out for..... Redneck Rampage: The Movie But I'll settle for a Lounge Lizard Larry movie......
No Pong that I know of, but apparently there will be a Pac-man movie: http://imdb.com/title/tt0473377/ http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=46951 I just read an article about Uwe Boll, and he's also doing Far Cry and Hunter: The Reckoning. Some other movies based on games that are planned include Area 51, Darkwatch, Spliter Cell, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Max Payne, Prince of Persia, Duke Nukem, Grand Theft Auto, and The Getaway. I'm not sure on how valid that list is though.
Hey, you forgot to include Spy Hunter, also starring The Rock. I think it would make a better film than most of the newer games as its more open to different interpretations.
Extra info: http://www.moviesonline.ca/film1307.htm Spy Hunter Director: John Woo Former F-15 pilot Alec Sects (The Rock) is recruited to become a member of a government agency called International Espionage Services (IES), specifically joining an elite group called the Spy Hunters. Piloting an experimental battle-car, the G-6155 Interceptor, with all varieties of weapons and gimmicks (including the ability to transform into a speed boat or a super-fast motorcycle), Sects and his fellow Spy Hunters are given the assignment of defeating Daemon Curry, the evil president of a cartel called NOSTRA International, which has plans of world domination. Of course, the bad guys have their own souped-up weapon-packed vehicles, and they don't like being "hunted".
Some of my thoughts. Uwe Boll should be left on a deserted island with only the scripts to his horrible movies for entertainment. Max Payne should be directed by John Woo. The Getaway 1 & 2 should have been movies instead of games. Fighting games should never be made into movies, DOA: Dead or Alive is already being filmed and instead of casting the roles with big breasted models, they went out and got people like Jaimi Pressley to play Tina Armstrong. Let this be the last fighting game movie ever and please let there be tons of nudity. Peter Berg, actor and director of the Rundown and Friday Night Lights, is apparently no longer directing Splinter Cell. I think this is a good thing. He's and up and commer, but I don't think he'd done anything that makes me feel confidant he can do Splinter Cell right.
I think the trailer looks ok. I dont ever expect big things out of these movies from games though. The good thing about Doom is that they have alot of wiggle room. Lets face it...the game is all about shooting the **** out of monsters and thats about it. The movie I think they could REALLY stuff up is the Halo movie. Its a great game....but trying to think about how they will translate the aliens from that into a movie.....it just has to look tacky at the end.
Believe it or not, I actually have an honest-to-God scoop. In February this year, I went to Prague for a set visit of this movie. I interviewed the producers, the special effects dudes, and both The Rock and Karl Urban. Who knows how good the story will be. A lot of stuff, though, has me hopeful. The set is great. Dark, gritty, and very much 1st-person-gaming style. Fans of the game will like it. According to the producers, the tone of the film will be a "Hard R." Universal Pictures won't let me publish the full report until September. But here's a link to my set visit preview on Dark Horizons.
