Some of there good songs: Down Beutiful Disaster First Straw Creatures (for a while) Come Original Dont Tread on Me Amber All Mixed Up Transistor Summer of Love Do You Right --- Great band IMO. There older stuff is better than there recent, but I heard there latest CD sounds good.
Havnt heard alot of their songs....just listened to a few once a couple of weeks ago at a friends....only name i can rmr is beutiful disaster They are pretty good.
I had friends that followed them all over the midwest in the early 90's. Omaha had such a great musical culture back in those days. I haven't listened to them that much since they hit the national scene.
I quit listening to them after their 3rd album. They became such pus*@s. I couldn't stand it. I did like the first 2 albums the most. I can't listen to it anymore, though.
The bass player was a year ahead of me in high school. Didn't know him that well, but knew a guy who had either gotten thrown out of the band or quit (depended who you talked to) and he was pretty cool. That guy hung out with a guy that finished 4th in the Olympics in rifle shooting and is probably somewhere killing someone from half a mile away with the military at this very second. Am I adding anything to this thread? Probably not, but here ya go. It's always good to throw in a Keanu is a stoner story... Anyway, they were obviously highly regarded around my parts and once they left for LA to hit it big stories of them getting high with Keanu Reeves on a routine basis abounded. Whoa! Was never much of a fan of the music.
Man, their new stuff sounds badass. They have their new songs profiled on myspace. Check it out: http://www.myspace.com/311
They will be at the Woodlands 9/9 ~ I had no idea they were that popular. I picture them playing at Numbers not a large outdoor venue.
i used to love them years ago.... still like em alot, i just dont jam em that much anymore. i have seen them in concert 4 or 5 times and will say that they put on an awesome live show, lots and lots of energy with a fairly chill crowd. i don't like their newer stuff (especially the last album), but their first 4 or 5 albums are kick-ass. transistor is a great album that is unlike any other album they've ever done, a lot of hippy vibes on that one.
311 is my favorite band by far. i just saw them on thursday at the new lakefront pavilion in chicago. beautiful scenery, with lake michigan right behind us and the chicago skyline to our right. very pretty. and 311 put on a pretty kickass show. evolver was probably their worst album, but their new one, from listening to it on myspace, is getting back to being great. i think if you see them live once, you'll convert to being a fan. they are that good. they also have a surprisingly large cult following. huge fans all over the place, a lot of them stoners.
I like 'em, but I stopped buying their CDs after the 3rd album I believe. Not because I didn't like their music. It's just that if you listen to one song, it's like you've listened to them all. Same riffs, similar lyrics, nothing new. And that's a good thing. They're not trying to create music they're simply not good at. It's just not worth buying the same sounding CD over and over again.
I definitely listen to 311. They're one of my favorite bands. I didn't know they were coming out with a new CD. It's good to see they're on MySpace; I'm gonna go listen to their album. Their self titled CD and "From Chaos" are their best CD's in my opinion; I don't think there's a bad, non kick-ass song on either album.
I have never really heard much of 311 before, but hearing after "Tread on me" I think I may become a fan. Thanks for the song suggestions I'm going to have to check them out.
"You will not check them out. You will only listen to Poison and Bon Jovi music. You will irritate and annoy your sister to the point of suicide. You will then drive cross-country into Russia. (I know the land-bridge is out.) but you and your will will make it reappear. No 311 for you, young man. Much work for you to do.
I used to annoy my friends back in Belfast, by calling the band : Thirty one-one or Three hundred and eleven
Keanu's band used to rehearse at the same rehearsal studio in Hollywood that I rehearsed at in the early 90s. Yes Keanu is a stoner. He is also an extremely mediocre bass player and an assclown as a human being.
