I haven't gotten this month's bill yet, but last month's was something like $160 in a 2900+ sq. ft. house. Thermostat is programmable and is around 76-78 when I'm home and at 80+ when I'm out.

    Yeah, that makes sense.

We were renting an un-airconditioned house near Duke University in 1982-83 when I was exposed to the power of an attic fan. This was when my oldest son was entering the world and my ex-wife was working on a PhD at Duke. I think we had a window unit in the BR...

2600 Square feet and it is always 190.

We're thinking of putting in the double pane windows.

The life spans vary, but 9 times out of 10 it's a faulty motivator that causes them to go bad.

My bill was $328 last month (2500sf / 2 story / Entergy), but I keep my house at 75 during day, 73 at night..

I just have to say I would hope that some of you would never invite me over (like you ever really would)........ keeping your houses set at 78, 80, 85 degrees.

One thing I will spend money on - a cool house.

Man, I can't believe some of you guys keep it so cold at night. I must be cold blooded. I haven't turned our thermostat any lower than 78 all summer.

Not sure what the bill was this month, but in the house I built when I was in high school, we wrapped the hot condenser coils around the hot water heater intake line, and thus the only time the electric hot water heater runs is in winter.

A valve that caused the hot water heater to drain when the a/c runs would probably improve efficiency further.

3500 sq ft= $1200. These energy prices will cause a recession.

Everyone I know who has Reliant has seen a much larger bill this year than last year.

Me too. I have a tiny apartment. Last year around this time my bill was around $70.00. This year, it's $100.00.

    ****ing "reliant" my ass.

The last one was about $180 for a 1700 sf house, but that's abnormally high. It's because we've been having air conditioner problems off and on. Speaking of which...

my A/C is out again. They always lie about when they're going to come fix it. Looks like I won't have any cool air the rest of the weekend. I just had to vent. Earlier in the summer I could almost stand it, but last night it was very difficult to sleep. Anyone have any ideas on how not to be completely miserable when this happens?

I got a $200 bill for this month!!!!

I leave the AC on 85 when I'm out of the house (about 3/4 of every day) and on 80 when I'm in the house. That's for both upstairs and downstairs units.

This bill is killing me!!! Why the hell did I buy a house?

I got plantation shutters installed on Friday, so hopefully that will cut down on the bill, b/c I have 6 huge windows in the living room that absorb a lot of heat and sunlight. These shutters better make this bill manageable, or I'll be living on the street soon.
