    This is actually a stationary photogtraph taken from earth. The thing that are streaking are comets from last year's persid metor shower. It just looked like one of those images from Star Trek.

    This was taken from APOD The Astronomy Picture of the Day from NASA. They also have an archive of previous day's shots that is linked here.

    This picture is from a few days back. Today's picture is is a spectacular, if blury, Chandra shot of a supernova. From may 28th they have This incredible picture of the Himalayan Horizon From the Space Station with perspective angle that makes it look like it was taken from an airplane. I check almost every day, and rarely do they disappoint. Occasionally they will throw in an "artists rendering" of some new extra solar planet, but at least those are timely.
