James is a better shooter. Sura scores a lot on layups. So their career averages don't really show their shooting skills (assuming "shooting" means "shooting jump shots.") If you just compared fg%, Shaq would be one of the best "shooters" in NBA history. But nobody would ever consider Shaq as a shooter at all. As for who's the better shooting guard, that depends on a lot of things not objectively measurable.
Excellent point. Sura used to give the Rocks fits with his driving layups. A healthy Sura has really blossomed over the last couple of years into a very good player. Still no matter how you cut it James is a better jump shooter. But this is great for the Rockets - different skillsets for different situations.
sura definitely even tho mike james is a WAY better shooter... id still take sura over him for SG... kid can rebound, score and assist.. and more importantly hes one of the more consistent players on the team...
I know this topic is about shooting but Sura's got intangibles like intensity, desire, hustle and toughness that would make him a better fit for a generous amount of playing time while James is better coming off the bench for instant offense. I DO think that James has the ability to start for the Rocks at PG especially with his quickness and speed when penetrating the lane, but Sura's pitbull mentality (scrappiness) is needed more on the Rocks particularly with Yao and T-Mac being basically laid back and not usually very intense as a rule
James is a better shooter and will more than likely get better because he has more time to work on it... Sura is nearing the end... James can create his own shot and take over the game when needed and Sura is more of a "JYD" type player and is a fierce competitor!
