Well I would hope not and I would hope we're not thinking China is in any way our friend or partner. We often talk about copyright infringement in here with Napster, well China makes that look like a joke. Who knows how many hundreds of billions are lost every year in Chinese copyright infringement. ------------------ The ox is slow but the Earth is patient.
So, Jim Are you still watching the basketball. Let me give you a little history lesson: 1. Sun yet-sin formed the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) as a military machine modelled after the Soviets. 2. Not so surprisingly a second communist party arises to challenge the new "dynasty", called the CCP...Communist Part or something like that. Chiang Kai-shek took over the KMT as a military leader and killed all his challengers in the other "communist party". Sounds very similar to Stalin killing Trostky and overtaking Lenin, doesn't it. 3. Japan took over China during the war. 4. After the war, destabilization continues to exist in China as two essentially communist parties battle it out. 5. Even before 1949, Chiang Kai-shek starts a dictorial campaign of Formosa...killing 100s if not 1000s, after a protest of his government. Basically, he foresakes ideologies of Sun yet-sin for profit making, and his people don't like him. 7. Now he looses to the other oppressive dynasty and takes residence in Taiwan. 8. Then the damn Treaty with us, to help maintain his rule and not lose anymore control, while still brutalizing democracy in Taiwan. Also, Jim, how soon we forget that Taiwan did not lift martial law over Formosa until 1986, when they also lifted the ban on political parties. To me, that pretty much is the definition of a dictatorial puppet government. Chiang Kai-Shek is no hero of democracy, only brutal and tyrannical capitalism. Our "Treaty" with them is bunk!! In 1895, The Treaty of Shimonoseki, written by Japan, ceded Chinese possession of both the Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan to Japan. It marked the start of half a century of Japanese rule over Taiwan. The Japanese undertook an intensive modernisation of Taiwan infrastructure. Between 1918 and 1937, Japan consolidated its regime in Taiwan, exploiting Taiwan’s rich natural resources exclusively for the benefit of Japan. Taiwan toiled under Japanese occupation until Japan defeat in World War II. After Japan surrendered, Taiwan was restored to Chinese sovereignty on 25 October 1945, an event still celebrated annually on the island as Restoration Day. However, civil war raged across the vast Chinese landscape for four year after the end of the Japanese occupation. In 1948, Chiang Kaishek was elected the president of the Republic of China, however war was swinging in favor of the Communists as they took Tianjin and Beijing. On 21st January, 1949, Chiang Kaishek resigned from the presidency. After nearly a year of self-imposed solitude, in December 1949, he returned to lead an exodus of Nationalist soldiers and a rambling entourage of merchants, monks and masters of classical arts across the Taiwan Strait to Taiwan. Still calling his retreating government the Republic of China, Chiang’s army defeated pursuing Communists in a last-stand battle on Quemoy, holding that island ever since. Chiang was determined to reform Kuomintang policies on Taiwan and he governed the island according to Sun Yatsen’s Three Principles of the People, Sanminchui. With the outbreak of the Korean war in 1950, Taiwan was places under the American protective umbrella from possible Communist attacks, and received substantial economic aid too. In 1955, the United States and Taiwan ratified the Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty. Chiang Kaishek continued to maintain strict political discipline and social order but he gave enterpreneurs free reign in the economic sphere. At the same time, the island’s population doubled to 16 million people. Chiang died on April 5, 1975. He was succeeded by vice president, Yen Chia-kan however in the next presidential elections the following year, Chiang Kaishek’s son, Chiang Ching-kuo was elected president. In 1971, Taiwan lost its membership in the United Nation organisation and was replaced by the People’s Replublic. In 1978, The United States, announced the recognition of the People’s Repulic of China and ceased official diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Chiang Ching-kuo died in 1988 and was succeeded by Lee Teng-hui who was the island’s first Taiwanese born president who is the current president of the Republic. Heyp, there was no emperor when Chiang Kaishek was forced to leave mainland China for Taiwan. Are you getting tired of being wrong yet? ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
No...because you do not know the history of Chiang Kai-shek, nor the full destabilization of the emperor. read above, then get back to me later...OK!
Why is communism evil? I understand Evil people. . but a economic system is Evil? Jim what is you definition of Communism As Marx painted it . ..is not how China/Soviets practice it. Rocket River ------------------
Oh,,,Jimmie there was an emperor when Chiang Kai-shek lost his battle for tryanny...he was in house arrest in Russia. quick spewing Western propoganda at me. The Evil Empire was as much Chiang Kai-Shek as Mao....Chiang Kai-Shek the military ruler, just lost the battle to fill a power void.
Glad to see you corrected yourself with your last post. Once again, you cultural relativists and Liberal apologists have to dig into the distant past for your criticisms. The relevant point is Taiwan's form of government TODAY, and the treaty in place TODAY. The United States will not turn its back on Taiwan because most of us believe that keeping our word is important. Some of us view the theft of human rights as evil. Some of us realize the time proven fact that tyranny anywhere is a threat to freedom anywhere. ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
Rocket River, Communism is not an economic system. You are thinking of the European style of Socialism we see today, I believe. EVIL 1 a : a theory advocating elimination of private property b : a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed 2 capitalized a : a doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the U.S.S.R. b : a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production c : a final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state has withered away and economic goods are distributed equitably d : communist systems collectively ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
Distant past...no chance Jim...boy you are not following the bouncing ball here. You history lesson is bunk...and I pulled it out of you by getting you to say the true ruling party of China fled to Taiwan, as if it were a democracy. Chiang Kai Shek MURDERED the opposition in Formosa like he did EVERYWHERE else, even before fleeing. And Taiwan did not lift martial law over Formosa until 1986, when they also lifted the ban on political parties. Yeah, I want to protect that Puppet Govt treaty we have with them. read some history and quit listening to propoganda.
You stated that the Communists overthrew the Emperor. Now I see why Clutch calls you derogatory names from time to time. Not only do you argue illogically and make up facts to suit your argument, but you don't even tell the truth when it resides in the same thread! ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
Wow, I can't believe that I have spent time arguing with you on this subject. I never stated that the ruling party of China was a Democracy. You are a liar once again, and I am done with you. Bye. ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
Uh, Jimmie The communist did overthrow the emperor. I said the emperor never fled to Taiwan...we are protecting a military machine from a communist revolution that start in the early century, not in 1949 or something... Nice to see you assume I'm making things up because you are losing this argument about an Evil Empire and bogus Treaty. Nice you refuse to address Chiang Kai-Shek's being a leader from a Military school that taugh Soviet tactics. Or how he raped Formosa.
Right, so my point is Chiang-Kai Shek is an EVIL EMPIRE too, and a propped up leader after he lost the war in China that he started!! call me a liar anytime it helps you feel better.... bye bye
I'm sorry you took my posts as an insult, Jim. I must warn you, however, that your Goldwater-esque bombastic, reactionary threads insult my intelligence. Besides, there is no conversation here, only the rantings and ravings of a paranoid person who thinks Clinton is the devil and China has the ability to destroy the United States. Your posts here indicate to me that you have a hard time grasping reality. Have a nice day! ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker [This message has been edited by RocketMan Tex (edited April 10, 2001).]
This was said at 1:30 and was the first mention of the emperor being ousted...I see nothing about communists. Good thing he only reads heyp's posts. Otherwise he might be calling me names, too! ------------------ Whitey will pay.
Here you go MORON. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Aegean/7545/PuYi.html The last emperor of China abdicated his fake throne set up by the Japanese at the end of WW2. Chiang Kai Shek was named the President in 1948, and fled to Taiwan soonthereafter. Your entire argument is based on half truths and emotional drivel. ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
Rimbaud, where do you see in that sentence that the Communists banished the emperor? Do you understand the difference between the Communists and the Japanese? SHEESH, you people need to learn to read! ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
