I have absolutely no problem with immigration. I just feel that it should be done legally and that the U.S should have a similar system to Canada and other countries that seek out immigrants that will most benefit this country. We should be giving priority to educated, english speaking immigrants. Immigrants who want to assimilate to this country and become Americans. Not those who seek to leech off this country & make it more like their own.

And before some ignorant person tries to label me racist, I should point out that I am hispanic, and I am no uncle tom. Just someone who isn't afraid to say it how it is.

Those who think this country doesn't have an immigration problem are probably a bit naive and should take a look outside their own suburbs.

Does the US Census take illegals into account?

Agree with a lot of things you said here, I too think there is a massive illegal migration problem in the US.

The problem is it won't be addressed by either party, for obvious reasons.

As for Anglos becoming a minority in Texas, that's great news if it finally leads to more futbol fans. Oh yah, and we need to rename the sport as well: it's not SOCCER but FUTBOL (Football, whatever). The 'other' football should be called by its appropriate name: American Football (or just renamed American handball :p )

I'm just shocked that it took this long for that to be the case. But, I guess once I took my minority a#$ to NC, I skewed the numbers :p

i totally agree, except for the part about seeking out immigrants and being picky about it. that just seems kind of un-american to me. "bring us your tired, huddled masses" is what this country is all about.

giving priority to english speaking educated immigrants is very unamerican and if that was the case, i wouldnt be here and many others would not be either.

ideally, you want people to assimilate into american culture, but you cant force it on them.

but to your previous post, how is immigration the fault of the democrats?

how do you feel about dubya's proposal to grant amnesty and drivers licences to illegals?

I understand the principal of what you are saying but your message needs a little work.

Diversity should be celebrated...not assimilated. With diversity comes new ideas and adds character. A fully "assimilated" society would be pretty boring. Never mind the Nazi-esqueness or KKK-esqueness that using words like assimilate draws to mind.

I agree there is an immigration problem. But rich Americans generally have no true interest is fixing the problem because of the cheap labor force. Fact is, if you "fix" the problem, it will create a huge economic game of dominoes as everything that involves manual work will begin to crumble. We need a fix but it has to be implemented slowly so the economy can adjust.

    You have a point, almost.

"Seek out immigrants that benefit this country" --> I bet that you think the uneducated ones are the ones to keep out. Now explain how these people are working in various jobs that support the American economy. Is that not benefiting this country? Is that not lowering the prices you pay for the things you have?

"giving priority to educated, english speaking immigrants" --> Isn't the beauty of our country that your parents can be that exact opposite, but that they work their butts off and risk life and alienation so that YOU can be the educated, English-speaking one?

The big picture you miss is that America is a melting pot. It's NOT chunky soup. It's a melting f'ing pot. It's been called that for a very long time. Do you even stop and think what that means? Things *mix* together and change. If it was chunky soup, we'd be like Europe. We're not. We're American. The assimilation works *both* ways as a result.

I'm a minority. My parents aren't from the US. But - you can be damn sure I call myself an American. So do my parents. They spoke English when they came here, but not that well. And I'm pretty sure they didn't fit your definition of "educated".

I'll be glad when this moves to D&D, as I hate hearing stupid discussions like this. The beauty of our country, its history, and of its humanity is lost to people like you.

I honestly hope that in like 60 years none of this matters cuz every race in this country will breed with each other and we'll all sit around the fire singing kumbayah.

America will brown whether the natives like it or not.

Ironically, Latino immigrants are emigrating from their hubs to other states to work in jobs no self respecting native would do. But along the way, it ensures that their children are getting some good education reserved for segregated high estate communities.

People say America is a melting pot but it really isn't. Why would places like Chinatown exist if America were truly a melting pot? America is more like a stew. A bunch of people thrown together that would like to stay by themselves, but is forced to slowly mix together.

Also, I"m not sure what you are arguing. Are you arguing that only allowing educated people to America is a bad way to function? Or are you arguing that illegal immigration should be allowed? If it's the former, I agree with you.

Yeah - I was trying to say that placing an education restriction on immigration is dumb. I think AcesHigh7's point is silly for this reason - people come here to *get* educations, both for themselves and their children. People come here for better lives.

You're right about the Chinatown phenomenon (ditto to a smaller extent little Indias, little Koreas, etc.), BUT those people don't make up the majority of their own groups. Compare the American setup to the actual, legitimate ghettos which are found in Europe.

The US is wonderful because it invites assimilation (which is one of Aces' good points) but also because it soaks up culture as well (which Aces and other "America Firsters" don't point out).

As for illegal immigration, there are many problems with it. That discussion definitely belongs in D&D.
