I was a Ralph Sampson fan when he was in college. I became a Rockets fan when they drafted him -- by the time he moved on I was hooked.

can't pinpoint the exact moment. growing up watching sports with your father kinda cements things. dad took me to the finals versus the celts in '81, i guess there was no turning back after that. i've been in new york city for 14 years now and have tried to follow the local teams but my heart is just not in it. rockets, stros and now the texans. you know what they say; you can take the boy outta houston but you can't take the houston outta the boy.

From 12 years old, I split my time living in Iowa and League City. Because there were no Pro-sports in Iowa, college sports was king. My family is full of RABID sports fans and we had season tickets to both football and basketball. When I was up north we'd go watch Matt Bullard play and in 1990 he came to the Rockets. It was an easy transition to keep rooting for him. It was my way to keep ties with Iowa. When I went to college, back in Iowa, the Rockets were my way to keep ties to Houston (along with the Oilers that ripped my heart out and spit on it). Those were the title years and it pretty much cemented that I would be a Rocket Fan for life.

I became a Rocket fan during the 1986 playoffs, I still vividly remember watching the lakers series and praying the Rockets could get the win and advance to the finals...I remember jumping and yelling with joy when Sampsons made that last second shot to beat the lakers. From that point on my loyalty and heart have belonged to the Rockets. When the Rockets won back to back championships words could not describe the pride and joy I felt, I still have the front page of the Houston Chronicle issue printed the day after the Rockets won their second championship...this is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. :D

Diddo Azadre! I didn't even pick up a basketball until I was 13. Then, after playing and watching the NBA for a few years, I started following the '94 NBA playoffs really closely. And since red is my favorite color, I was immediately drawn towards the Rockets! I even started using them in NBA Live that summer, with Horry and Cassel as my favorites! I followed them troughout, and still can remember to this day watching the diagonal split screen of OJ in the white Bronco and the Finals vs. the Knicks on that blue NBC background!!! Man how I loved that theme music... Guess you could call me a fairweather fan back then, but hey, you gotta start somewhere!!!

since 88. when i was 6 year old kid my dad got tickets to a rockets/clippers game (i live in la) and i saw dream play for the first time and that was it. i started to follow dream as my favorite player and eventually it blossomed into an all out fanaticism for the team. i remember as a kid going through elementary school all the other kids found me to be weird because a) i was indian in a predominately caucasian school and b) i liked the rockets

I was a Rocket Fan for life the day we drafted that scrub Malick Badiane. :p

Actually since 76, when I moved to Houston. I grew up in Atlanta watching Pistol Pete play.

I started watching the Rockets around 1978/1979, I think. I was about 8 at the time. I have no idea why I started liking them, but my favorite players during those early few years were Calvin and Moses. My favorite memory of those early years is my dad making me go to bed at 9pm and me listening to the Rockets game under the pillows with the lights out on an old transistor radio. Other times I'd go sit in the bathroom for over an hour trying to listen to the game when I should've been doing my homework. The bathroom thing kinda worried my parents...

I think they became worried about the lengthy bathroom time when they found your stack of "Big Uns" magazines under the bathroom sink.

My story is similar to a lot of ya'll's. My dad came to the states and lived in NC and watched college ball. In 76, he moved to Houston and I was born in 79. By the time the 1986 playoffs were on, I was already a big fan. We used to beg our parents to take us to games, cut our "buy one get one free" coupons from The Houston Post, stay up late to watch games and just watch and follow like crazy. By the early 90s (junior high), I was a huge fan and the championship years were my freshman and sophomore years in HS so I loved it!!! So much joy!!! And I've been hooked for nearly 20 of my 26 years.

We moved to Houston from Tucson in February of 1984. The whole town was going nuts over "Phi Slamma Jamma" and I got caught up in the whole thing. I saw Olajuwon play against Ewing in the NCAA Championship and loved his game. When the Rockets drafted him, it was all over and I have been a Rox fan ever since.

im not as old as some of the others here...but i started to watch the rockets when i was about 7 or 8... those years when we kept losing against the sonics in the playoffs... i believe it was during this time i began to be a rockets fan b/c i would just hope they would beat the damn sonics.

then the following years when we won the championships just solidied my love for the rockets...and i havent changed since then.

Even though I live in Ohio, once I saw Dream play in college I became a fan of his. Once he went to the Rockets, I followed him and loved the team ever since.

I was actually born in Houston on June 8, 1986. If any of the older guys remember that, it was game 6 of the 1986 NBA Finals.

But I remember, the first real rockets games I remember are of the 92-93 season when we lost to Seattle in 7 games. I was 6/7 at that time.

I was a big fan of the Moses Malone era and phi slamma jamma....
That turned into Akeem and Ralph (twin towers) and so on...
I still can't really dribble, shoot, or pass the ball but I have a little defensive skillz (uhm...maybe not..lol..) but I still luv the Rockets and watch them whenever they are on tv up here in NY...Oh yeah...also grew up watchin the stros back in the day of Don sutton, Nolan Ryan, Niekro, J.R. Richards?, jose cruz and ofcourse the luv ya blue era with bum phillips and pastorini, earl cambell, billy "whiteshoes" johnson...etc.....

wow! that takes me back sum in time..... :D

I was 'bout 9. Came on board sometime around the inaguration, at outdoor picnic, watching rockets versus Kanas City in playoffs. small TV. Good hot dogs. Was asked if I liked Reagan or Carter later that day. I picked Carter. When asked why I said I liked peanuts. But At least Rockets won. Full Fledged Rocket Consciousness occurred during my Phi Slamma Jamma era.
