Just sad. In one season he became one of my favorite players of all time. If only he could have played here for 10 years instead of 2.

I'd be suprised if he doesn't come back for another season after this, especially if we get close to a championship but don't quite get there. He strikes me as too competitive of a person. Athletes say they're going to retire all the time. He's not ridiculously old, like 35 right?

Where did you hear that? He loves the style of play here, loves the energy, and loves this team. He'll be here for a couple more years.

this could be his farwell tour, but considering he has played for almost every team in the league, that might not matter !

Yeah I could see JB re-signing next season again as well...it'll depend on how far we go and our team...it would be a good move for the Rockets if they signed him to a 2-year deal with an option for the second year...

Not a direct quote from Barry, but according to Feigan... "guard Jon Barry returned to Houston on Tuesday and said he expected to this week sign a one-year deal that could complete his career."

I was surprised by this too. I think he's 36, so I could see him playing a few more years. And he does gush about how much he loved this team last year.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he changes his mind next year if things go well.

EDIT: I just realized Feigan said "could complete his career". I kept reading that as "would". That definitely leaves the door open.

Agreed, if this team makes some serious noise and he has a productive year then I'm sure he would have a major reason to come back

If he has a good season, I wouldn't doubt he'll try to come back next season.

    Jon Barry - veteran
    Luther Head - rookie

How will Head overshadow one of our top players off the bench?

He just turned 36. He was contemplating retirement last season. I don't think he'll be back past this year.

It's too bad. We should have gotten him instead of Piatkowski for '03-'04.

Though we did trade Pike for Deke, so I guess that didn't turn out too bad.

It probably depends on his health, playing time and how successful we are next year. If the season is disappointing and he's stuck deep on the bench (after our forthcoming backcourt moves ;)), he's probably done. If he has another great time and his body holds up, let's see.

It will all depend on how this season is for him and his health. If he is healthy and has another year like last then he will be back. Why not, if you can still play and still get paid.

Like most of us, i also really enjoy watching JB play. Ever since his days in sacramento and detroit, Ive been a fan of his. Hes one of the few players that i dont mind taking a pull up three on a fast break.

i have a strange feeling head wont have as big of an impact as we think he will this season...i believe hes ready to play and be a contributor but, considering the way CD and them talk about him, it seems they want to bring him along slowly....

Well, he is undersized for two and didn't play much 1 (not his main duty anyway) in university, plus he was the 24th in the draft. So people shouldn't expect too much from him in his rookie season. If he works hard and has the right attitude, I am sure he can be a solid contributor within 2 seasons. And that is when Rockets' core finally/officially enter their prime. So the future is bright. :)

im glad mr barry is back. its especially satisfying because this means we get to hear him on his weekly radio show in the morning on 610. those are always fun to listen to. i like hearing those morning guys sniff his jock and giggle when he says something cool. just kidding, its a cool show and and enjoyable to listen to...hope they do it again this year.

As much as I'd like him to stay, I'd rather him bow out with dignity and by choice than to take a forced exit befit for a scrub (Glen Rice? Where is he?)
