Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddy Prinze to marry Reuters April 17, 2001 12:56:00 LOS ANGELES - ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' star Sarah Michelle Gellar is engaged to marry her boyfriend of more than a year, actor Freddie Prinze Jr., a publicist for the actress confirmed on Tuesday. ''Access Hollywood'' reported that Gellar and Prinze, who star together in the upcoming film ''Scooby Doo,'' became engaged last Friday and announced the news to friends at a weekend party to celebrate her 24th birthday. Prinze, 25, and Gellar -- who have both been named among the 50 Most Beautiful People by People magazine -- also appeared together in the hit 1997 horror film ''I Know What You Did Last Summer.'' Prinze is the son of actor Freddie Prinze, who starred in the 1970s sitcom ''Chico and the Man.'' The elder Prinze committed suicide when his son was still an infant. Kind of disappointing to see Buffy marry the a hack actor like Freddie Prinze, Jr. (he is Keifer Sutherland of his generation, you know). i think SMG is a damned good actress. case in point the last 2 episodes of Buffy (although having Joss Whedon writing your dialogue sure helps). I wouldn't call Freddie a hack, he just needs a new agent to find him better films. He was pretty decent in The House of Yes. ------------------
I agree that SMG is very good as Buffy (especially in several recent episodes that tested her range), but I don't know that we can make a determination of how good an actress she is based on that alone. That is a character she's had a lot of time to develop, and like you said, she has the benefit of very good writing. I haven't been impressed with her in anything else. But I'll say she's very good as Buffy and has the potential to be very good in other things if given the chance. Freddie Prinze, Jr., though, has proven time and again that he's the worst actor of his generation. ------------------ Houston Sports Board
