Drewdog -- "Ever notice how 3 Doors down's "Loser" sounds errily familiar to: Alice in Chains' "Got Me Wrong"" Please don't ever insult Alice in Chains like that again. TheFreak -- I actually like Days of the New (the original line-up anyways) -- granted they weren't doing anything Alice hadn't been doing a couple years earlier but its still some pretty decent stuff. Of course, then Travis Meeks went on a power trip, fired everyone from the band, then turned disco (see: Days of the New II). ------------------ Hey now, Hey now, don't Dream it's over...
Tool has a new album coming out pretty soon and I'm sure it wont dissapoint. You should check out A Perfect Circle if you like Tool a lot. I don't think its nearly as good, but it is worthy of a download from Napster at least. I can't blame Korn either for going for the cash. I would go for the cash in a second. But from a fans perspective it is dissapointing. ------------------
Also, in high school the only two styles of music I really liked was rap and metal, but I dont think Limp Bizkit does a good job of mixing the two. I mean, even though it wasnt as heavy, I much prefer Sublime, or even old-school 311 music, which does a much better job of mixing good beats and rhymes with rock. Especially Sublime, some of their songs are classic. And you cant forget the Beastie Boys. They were very popular and actually put out good music, not this Papa Roach, LImp Bizkit crap. It is really sad how MTV forces crappy music down our throats. ------------------ [This message has been edited by JayZ750 (edited March 31, 2001).]
While it is probably way too much to hope for, maybe Metallica will sign a bass player again who has good music background, and not someone who just has a lot of energy, and is willing to stay out of the writing process (Jason Newsted). Cliff was the first person to introduce James and Lars to classical type music with moving melody and intertwining parts. He had a huge influence on them and their writing.... what a shame, how many rock stars of his ilk die of causes other than alcohol or drugs? Seems unfair to lose a talent such as his. At any rate, it would be nice for Metallica to sign a bass player who has good music background and can truly write music. (I know, I know, wishful thinking... James is a tyrant when it comes to his music). ------------------ "Any event, once it has occurred, can be made to appear inevitable by a competent historian." Lee Simonson
40 oz to Freedom was in my car for 15 months when I was in high school. A perfect circle is pretty good too. I listen to that cd whenever I meditate and stretch. ------------------
God that pissed me off so much. People who diss Creed cause its the "hip" thing to do. Just because a band makes it big time through radio and touring and NOT through MTV TRL, means they suck??? Hell no. Creed is freakin awesome. Their music is great, the lyrics are great, everything blends in perfectly. Scott and Eddie have similar voices. OH MY GOD!!! No way!!! 2 people have similar voices??? Ive never heard of that before in my life. We need to get scientists working on this phenonmenon right away!!! Of course, all bands are going to be influenced by other bands, other music. Thats natural. Name an all natural band without any influences... There arent any. before you diss Creed, why dont you go buy the album, listen to it all the way though, then make an educated decision. by the way, Creed is the first band EVER to have 4 #1 rock songs on their Debut album. If you want a good band that sounds new and innovative, check out Orgy. Vapor Transmission is a kick ass CD. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
im a 17 yr old, first off so i wont remember the good old music, but i flat out dont understand why people enjoy dissing metallica, they are a awesome rock/metal band and since the black album, they havent gone downhill..i think s and m has awesome instrumentals, the symphony and the band work well together..also i like bands like korn, and trust me everyone copies each other in this industry as in most others..like im a huge baseball fan but managers combine tactics from other coaches they worked under too, does this mean if they are successful they arent good coaches?? ------------------ How Sweet It Is! This topic needs some more feedback, especially for those of you are in the music industry, or just play for fun. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. Nomar -- I used to love Creed -- as in 'My Own Prison' never left my cd changer unless it was in transport from my boombox to my car. I did, and still kinda do, think that album was a superb grunge-rock refresher. Nothing terrible great, but just some plain old meat and potatoes rock and roll. It was only after 'Human Clay' that I started to sour on them. That may be the first album I've heard that actually regressed in overall quality. I can't think of anything redeeming about that album save 'Faceless Man' and 'Inside Us All', and even those two songs are marred by Stapp's abysmal lyrics. Like much alt-rock on the market today, Tremonti's riffs sound like they came straight out of the bargain bin at a Grunge-Rock clearance sale. The few moments of creativity, as in 'Faceless Man', get drowned out in repetitive power chord choruses. DVauthrin -- "also i like bands like korn, and trust me everyone copies each other in this industry as in most others..like im a huge baseball fan but managers combine tactics from other coaches they worked under too, does this mean if they are successful they arent good coaches??" Certainly nothing's wrong with picking a lick or two from your influences -- I think imitation is essential to devoloping an indiviual style. However, when you continue to lift stuff from other artists without contributing anything of your own, thats when you run into a problem. ------------------ Hey now, Hey now, don't Dream it's over... I am glad you said something, Nomar. I wasn't going to argue the Creed point because I didn't think I really had the energy to go at it discussing why I like them. They are a good band, and their good music during these times when there are so few bands putting out quality new music is refreshing. In the past, I have hated bands because they are popular. In a way, I still do this to some degree. I hate going along with the popular culture, because most the people I know who dig all the popular music are morons. But I couldn't and still can't bring myself to hate Creed. The band is just too good (despite some of their wuss lyrics), and I find myself waiting for their next CD. Screw it if they are popular. Screw it if they make money. They play good music that I like to listen to. And that is the bottom line. ------------------ "Any event, once it has occurred, can be made to appear inevitable by a competent historian." Janet Jackson anyone?!?!?!?! hehehe ... I am her BIGGEST fan alive ... can't wait for 4/24 ... new album ... go pick it up Great feel good music. Rockit ------------------
I may be out of place here, but I don't really fret over any current music trends because there is enough older music I haven't bought yet. Prime Example: I have LOADED by the Velvet Underground, which is a great cd, but I would eventually like to add to my collection more of their music. Another great cd you might not have heard about is BRIDGE OF SIGNS by Robin Trower. I have also being getting into the purer type of musical traditions like the Blues and Bluegrass and Folk music. I highly recommend Alison Krauss as a introduction to bluegrass. Her first cd TOO LATE TO CRY is classic. Getting back on the subject, I like OUTCAST and EMINEM for great new artists. I am not too sure in pure rock n roll or in Metal since I don't listen to it to much, but NIRVANA was prolly the best band of the nineties in that genre. I liked NIRVANA a lot. ------------------ I am an invisible man.
Thats your problem. The music is there, but you don't want to listen to it. You let MTV and the radio decide what you want to listen to and enjoy. ------------------ Nice guys finish last ... and im surely not going to finish last!
Stone Cold- My Own Prison and Human Clay are different albums with subtle diferences. The basic core of Creed music is still there. Faceless man is awesome. Listen to Wrong Way. That is a deep song. Dont abandon them just yet. Maybe you will like their upcoming album more. Raven- Your right. The thing is, Creed's popularity is "pure" compared to other modern bands and groups. The band gained its fan base through extensive touring and radio exposure, NOT through TRL or Say What Kareoke like other crap bands these days. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. Found this today: The late-nineties saw witness to the rise in number of "nu-metal" bands. Look a the US rock scene - everyone one and their Grandma are downtuning thier guitars and wearing baggy pants. Thanks to Korn sudden rise to superstardom and Limp Bizkit taking over the airwaves more and more untalented musicians are turning to rap-rock, death-pop, or whatever they call this genre for easy money. By following these simple and easy to follow guide you too can form your own nu-metal band, musical proficiency not needed. 1) You must cover an 1980s novelty song for your debut release. This is not an option 2) You need a gimmick. This is essentially important for the vocalist (they're not singers) be it bullied at school, self-mutilation, playing the bagpipes or spooky appearance. 3) Recruit a female bassist. This will lead to initial magazine exposure before the critics notice you can't actually play. By this time you will have built up a hardcore following of teenage boys. 4) Write some songs. About 12 will fill up an album. Don't worry about B-Sides, use crap remixes instead. 5) Incorporate a trendy DJ member into the band for that 21st Century feel. 6) Claim to be "down" with your fans. Express your thoughts on topics you have no idea about such as the elections and rage how much Britney Spears sucks. Never speak up about anything important. 7) Recruit lots of band members. About eight or nine is about right. Having three members is so passe nowadays. 8) Request famed nu-metal produced Ross Robinson to produce your debut. He will declare it to be most intense, pissed-off music ever released. Until the next one. 9) Claim Black Sabbath are your favourite band. Even if you've never heard of them, it's just cool to declare the Brummies as 'gods'. 10) Get the music press to compare your band to the Deftones and Tool and moan about how much you hate the comparisons. Put across your own band are here to save music from all the rubbish currently in the charts even if your band are indeed rubbish. You have not completed the 10 steps to becoming a trendy US nu-metal band. Go forth and sell one million copies of your debut in America and then disappear. ------------------ "It's like saying there isn't enough offense in football, so let's go to three downs." --Rudy T on zone defenses in the NBA

My older Brother played Metallica's old school music all the time when I was younger and i still like their music , I also listened to Iron Maiden , Ozzy Osbourne, all the great ones , I grew up on this stuff . I my estimation Creed has been a breath of fresh air since all the wanna-bes tryin to be like James Hetfield and Alice Cooper . Now Limp Bizkit is the sickest music Ive ever heard ------------------ Vice President of Executive Operations of the Sean Colson Fan Club http://bbs.babitze.com
