My boy told me they showed up, I didnt come because it was raining pretty bad. The one time I dont show up and they come.
The fonde all-stars finally lost a game. (moochie norris, cassel, mike james) they were embarrassed by some nobodies who only suited up six players.
Ron Artest, and maybe even supposedly T-Mac was gonna suit up to play in fonde... but the weather ****ed everything up. water kept drippipng from the ceiling; and players kept slipping on the floor in the first two games, so they canceled the supposedly grand finale game; and every one left dissapointed after two fantastic games. it was hot as hell in there also. where is the ac?
I know he was there last Wednesday. He didnt play but he did have about three orders of fried catfish he got there from the Breakfast Klub (which by the way is a great deal for about 7 bucks). Artest played last year in a game or two for the New York (light blue) team, which I think is funded by Kenny Smith, or at least was known as his team in the past. I havent seen him yet this year. Was McGrady going to play with NYC or with Frank's team?
For anyone else that has been going to Fonde since before it blew up in the media, what are your thoughts on all the attention it has been getting? I for one was upset at seeing it on the front page of the sport section --- especially on a Sunday. The beauty of Fonde has always been being able to chill with the players in an up-close atmosphere. Not too many people bothered them for autographs or pictures, but when they did, the players most always obliged. Last week, I saw some of the players with their own security people there. Fans were constantly going up to them and bothering them during the game, asking for autographs and pics. I'm afraid that if things keep up like that, the NBA stars will begin to stay away. I'm sure I'm overreacting some, but I just dont want something as awesome as Fonde to be ruined because some reporter decided to tell the whole city about it.
I dont think you have to worry about it going away, but it probably will never be as intimate as it once was. I think its only going to get bigger and I dont think it's fair to blame the reporter. As you know a lot of players live here in the off season. I doubt they will ever go away. Every year more players come and the word of mouth spreads to other fans and players. The bigger the stars, the bigger the crowd. Also this "Street" or "undergroud" type Bball is bigger than ever. Houston isnt the only place with this type of tournament, but it was probably the city that was the most under the radar. Please keep me posted if Mike James is in town. I am looking forward to seeing him next week if he will be there.
I'm sure you're right about the players staying, I just enjoyed thinking of ProCity as a kind of "exclusive" place (guess I'm being selfish ). I'm planning on going tomorrow night for at least one of the games and I'll let you know if MJ is there. Be sure to be there for the playoffs and the championship game, NBA stars show up like crazy and the games are always well played and intense. Van Exel had 9 or 10 threes in the first half of last year's championship game,it was unbelievable.
Mike James was there last night. He left early since the floors were slippery. A/C didn't work either. Fonde All Stars lost their first game.
kendrick perkins played in monday's game as if he had something to prove. he impressed the crowd with his facial dunks, and off balanced fadeaways, and hook shots. i hope boston decides to play this kid next year. he has potential.
Kendrick had that same potential in high school, he should've gone to college. Ndudi Ebi should've gone to college too. They both had the physical potential to be lottery picks.
Allen Parkway exit is exit 47 B or 47 A? those are the exits that showed on mapquest. also, are the games really crowded?
I didn't see this mentioned yet, but Mark Bryant was on the list. Would this be the same Mark Bryant PF that played for the Rockets in the mid to late 90's???
I think its 47A, just look for Allen Parkway. The games get crowded but if you get there early you wont have any trouble finding a seat.
I hate to double post but yes it is the same Mark Bryant that played for the rockets. He never plays though he just walks around with his two boys and talks to everybody.
Bryant played last year on the team with Mobley, Posey, and Van Exel. Along with Dwayne Rogers (the park legend) and Eric Riley, they were unstoppable.
went to the fonde tonight and it was extremely packed in that place compared to the first time i went about 3 weeks ago. watched the first game and mighty mouse in one stretch pulled up on 4 straight possessions and drained 3's from atleast 28 feet no exageration. johnathen bender...the guy absolutely sucks. terrence morris outplayed him. also saw sam cassel and damon jones coming out of damons car, and while in line at the breakfast club inside mario elie was right ahead of me in line. very nice guy. another guy who was there was chris morris if anybody remembers him (former player for the jazz) who looked about 50 years old. mario also looks alot older. instead of staying inside the gym me and my brother went outside and just watched the all the celebrity cars passing by. just a small recap for anybody who wants it
Thanks for the update. I had to work tonight so I didnt get to go. We should try to meet up one day after the games. I've only met two other members from this site, I'd like to meet more if its possible. Just an idea if anybody is up to it. The championship game is next week too.
are you sure we are talking about the same game? because jonathan bender did pretty well in that game. he hit a couple of three pointers, and slashed to the basket for lay-ups and drew fouls. his dunks really had the crowd in a frenzy. did you even see that jr smith (hornets) made a late appearance in the game and dunked on some poor sap on the opposing team? everyone went wild after that jr smith dunk. somebody tried to attemot a foul on jr; but he was too high up in the air, then jr smith ****ted on some no name player. dwayne rodger's team was eliminated from fonde play-off contention by rayshard lewis's team. once again, kendrick perkins was the x-factor. some tall dude named "STICKS" was blocking shots left and right. and damon jones actually played his a-game that night hitting two three-pointers in a row. some dude whos name i forgot, hit like four threepointers in a row.
