I can answer this one (Clutch and I went to the same high school (at different times)). It is a suburb of Houston, about 30 minutes north of downtown and about 10 minutes south of the Woodlands.
Austin to Las Cruces (on the way to LA and SF) 5 years ago was the furthest I've driven solo in one trip. The trip seems that much longer because there's almost nothing between San Antonio and El Paso. You could be driving on the surface of the moon and see about the same landscapes and population.
You know, come to think of it, I may be one of the mass-solo long drivers out there. Every other month - two 1300 mile drives, split two ways. That's 7800 miles I drive solo per year, split 12 ways. Does anyone know of some good airline deals to Memphis???
When i moved to atlanta in Jan, i rented a cargo van on friday and drove to atlanta with my cousin, dropped off the stuff and drove back on saturday and returned the van. Then on sunday took my car on my own to atlanta. so in a three day weekend drove 2600 miles. ........... but saved like 1200 in movers cost.
spring to vail, right here. did san marcos to denver last summer, awesome trip. spring to miami was the overall longest roadtrip i've taken. but we stopped several times.
San Antonio to Las Vegas,NV took about 22 to 24 hours. I also drove from Houston to Milwaukee via Indianapolis, it took about 26 hours but I can't remember if I had a long stop for rest. Also drove from Vegas to Denver (which is a beautiful drive) took about 14 and a half hours.
Boulder to Birmingham the longest solo? Memphis to Cape Cod, on my way to "opera camp" summer '81. 1,350 Miles, or about 21 hours, in my old yellow Datsun B210...
In Anchorage today it's forecast to be 85 and sunny with light inlet breezes Longest solo nonstop for me is Anchorage to Haines, AK: 800 miles in about 15 hours. I've driven from Oregon to Alaska 10 times (2700 miles), but never straight through.
Quebec City to Key West... 1967 miles in 2 days straight in August of '95. It was an ex-gf and me in my old 91 VW camper. The A/C was out too... ugh.
Solo - probably Houston to Dallas and back. However, I've done the following straight drives (mostly in the past year due to touring) with others splitting the driving. Many of these drives began as late as 3AM. -Houston to Tucson (I got us to El Paso and finally had to stop) -San Francisco to Houston (by far the longest - close to 40 hours) -Miami to Houston -Chicago to Houston -Phoenix to Houston -Houston to Baltimore -Baltimore to Boston -New York to Chatanooga -Nashville to Houston (this was with my dad, so I may have actually driven the entire way - can't remember anymore).
I did the Corpus Christi, Texas to Panama City, FL trip in 1990 then again for work I went from Corpus Chrsti, Tx to Morenci, AZ back in 1997. The trip to Florida was not to bad , but the trip to AZ was terrible from San Antonio west is a nighmare.
I don't know the exact mileage, so I don't know which is longer, but it would be one of the following: 1) here in College Station straight up Highway 6 north to DeLeon and back, took about 8 hours if I recall correctly. 2) College Station to just inside the Louisiana border at the end of Highway 21, over the Sabine River bridge, and back. That second trip took much longer, but I did a lot of driving onto back roads, like I drove the entire length of Farm Road 1, which is the third longest farm road in Texas. It was actually after I drove Farm Road 1 and noticed by the signs that I was only 7 miles from the Louisiana border that I decided to drive to the border, because I had never driven out of Texas before. I'm glad I did, it was almost sunset, and the view crossing the Sabine river into Lou. was beautiful. I've taken lots of other drives that probably covered that many miles or more, but there was a lot of backtracking, covering ground over and over, like taking a farm road all the way to a dead end and then coming back to the major highway and then doing it again on the next FM. Yes, I'm a major highway-lover, I could go on and on. It's been way too long since I've gone for a good drive just for fun. My only times leaving B/CS by car in the last year or so has been straight to San Antonio to my mother's place.
I went from Portland, OR to Sacramento, did some business for about 2 hours, then drove back overnight. It was around 1200 miles. And I got stuck in morning traffic on the way home in Portland. That was the worst part. The last 2 miles took so long...
Jubail to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. There was a massive sandstorm on the way to Riyadh, and I couldn't see **** on the road but kep going anyways at about 30 miles/hour on the interstate highway. I believe it took overall about 12 hours. The nicest part was going through Taif, which is the Saudi equivelant of Denver if you will, only a lot nicer, cooler, and the scenary is fantastic. I don't drive nowadays more than 8-9 hours in a single day. Usually Houston-to-Lubbock is my longest trip, and has been, for the past few years; takes anywhere from 8-9 hours.
mine was from a pretty close location. arches natl. park in southeastern utah. i think it was about 21 hours. i had someone w/ me, but i drove the whole way.
I love road trips, but I don't usually drive long stretches by myself (though I want to try it) and I definitely don't try to push it really hard. I drove all day from Memphis to Austin once, but there was someone in the car with me. (I assume stopping for food and restroom breaks doesn't count, because surely everyone has to do that...) Solo: not much. Monroe, LA to Memphis (5 1/4 hours). I could do a lot more, though.
