Jon Barry has a deal on the table and wiil sign next week. Dikembe Mutumbo is next. and sources tell them the Rockets are concerned about Nick Van Exels knee but are still considering him along with Gary Payton and Derek Anderson. nothing major but thought i'd put it out here
Wow, bringing in the old farts. Will Payton, NVE, or Anderson help our squad? Won't their speed/injuries play a factor?
I think Rockets is not expecting to have the whole package this season. So if NVE or Payton deal goes through it is just for this season.
id take gp over nve coz of experience and decision making. nothing against nve, he's a good role player, but id go with gp. for da, id take for some help at the 2 guard. then waive ward and wesley (hope we can also waive mooch, baker, and spoon).. thats it. im set with that lineup. yao/deke swift/howard/bowen tmac/jbarry anderson/sura gp/mj/sura
After signing Mutombo, I believe that the Rox have 2 major moves needed to be done to address the PG ang SG position--> a FA signing and a trade to trim our roster. We will be set after that...
don't call me stupid, but I really would like to see jayson williams and jamal crawford, because they are both the same age as swift/yao/tracy and would fit well in our system, given jamal accepts his role as a 3rd scoring option.
Honestly I would go with Brevin Knight I think Houston fans worry too much about perimeter shooting and not enough on efficiency and easy baskets. We already have scoring point guards in MJ and BS. I think he can also be had for cheap.
All of which he could pass along as mentor to another defensive minded gaurd who we drafted just this year. Speaking of which.. You excluded him from your line-up..
A move we could make is moving either Moochie or Charlie Ward + a second rounder for either Ira Newbil or Sasha Pavlovic. We need a big swing man and the cavs need depth at the PG position. Mutually satisfying.
I keep telling people, it's not his horrible three point shooting or even his lack of height that scares people around here from Brevin Knight. It's the fact that he's missed 127 games over the past five seasons. Oh, and the fact that he's short and can't shoot doesn't help him much.
yep. agreed. we dont really need a big name free-agent signing at point puard. the rockets just needs someone plays defense, and, who can control the offense without turning the ball over. the rockets dont need knight for his offense. thats what mike james is for.
Most likely we aren't going to acquire the perfect guard for our team this year. Payton could fill a need for one year, until they can get their man. I'd take Payton for his passing and defense over NVE. NVE is a better shooter, but I'd still rather have Payton.
Well with the new agreenment you would have to come up with more than 51 million to peresuade him which I doubt anyone could. There is no double dipping anymore. So basically Michael Finley is going to go with a contendar because nobody is going to offer more than 51 million for his service. So we have a shot like anybody else.
