I'm in the infant stages of considering to put some chrome wheels (20"-24") on my new car. I have no idea where to begin. Anyone in Houston have any recomendations with regards to a good place of business to visit? I want to speak to some professionals to understand styles and cost. Thanks!
do you have a car or truck? is it american, euro, or jap? i think 20 is best fit for a car.. 22 at the most.. in houston try discount tire direct.. in the web try tirerack.com, tires.com, and superbuytires.com
it's an SUV. i want it to look tasteful and not too "blingy". that's why i want to talk to a professional to get advice.
Well, I suppose you could go down to Montrose on a Saturday night, I mean if that's your thing... EDIT: Sorry, I thought you were talking about something else.
I need to get some new rims and tires for my Camry as well. As Kane said in Menace II Society, "I'm rolling on some bulls***!"
Rims are sweet but please stay away from "spreewells"/"spinners". I think they look okay on some nicer SUVs but some are just plain tacky or too "bling." Anyways, you can always check Ebay.
Caption time.... "I got dat Glow" On a serious note, I've never seen this on the streets but I bet its gonna be the next big style in rims as people have been trying to light up rims for a long time (see cheezy tirelfy air nozzle lights, neon in wheel wells etc) And I bet its not legal in Texas with the state's strict rules on lighting on cars. I've gotten many tickets for my underglow kit (which was destroyed by a bad tire shop )
A couple recommendations..... Progressive Automotive.....1960 and Veterans, northwest of intersection on Veterans Plaza Tire and Wheel.....Veterans near Bammel N Houston I believe. American Tire and Wheel (I believe that's the name) on 610 behind Northwest Mall by North Post Oak. They even do rim repairs.
I just got new wheels and tires at Discount Tire for my '05 Mustang *pats self on back*. They negotiated pretty easily (kind of like "They're this much." "Well, I saw them for [amount] on the internet." "OK, we can do that.") and had everything ready to go when I showed up to get them installed the next day. Plus, I got it interest free for 12 months AND they bought my stock wheels and tires (not for a whole lot, but it saved me from the hassle of selling them myself). All in all, very easy to do.
WOW, I'd be mad if mine was broken! but hey, I guess it's saving you money. By the way, I like Paul Wall.
I'm thinking of getting new rims for my truck. I have an 02 F150. The thing about getting heavier rims, I should probably look at getting new brakes, since I've heard that it's a bad idea to use your stock brakes with heavier rims. (makes sense)
There's a shop that sells rims in the strip mall next to the McDonald's over at Gessner and Town Park Dr.
I bought my rims (18'' Racing Harts) for my accord @ progressive autosports on stuebner airline and 1960. The people that work there are cool and know a lot about rims/wheels and other after-market stuff. The website is www.progressiveautosports.com.
Yep that where I get my stuff too...hence the plug earlier in the thread I am confused though....what is the real name of this street, Veterans Memorial Drive or Stubner Airline?
MAD? .....doesnt even come close to describing how I felt. Its was a StreetGlow LED underbody kit complete with "sweep effects" that always caught the chicks eyes. It blew all those wannabes with the played-out neon kits out of the water. Just amazin.....would definitely recomment it to anyone tryin to umm...."pimp out there ride!?!" Mind you, I went to the shop to just get a $5 plug in my tire. Toldem "lookout for the LED kit," idiot slide the jack underneath, started jacking, I heard the "cracking" of the Lexan tube that guarded the precious LED's and I flipped like never before...... I got my revenge in the end though. This was apparently a new "Mom-and-Pop" in action and they did NOT have a sign up concerning not being liable for property damage to owners vehicles as most shops sport to cover there asses. Threatend to call the cops, owner decided to settle by paying me full value for the entire kit. Idiot forgot that he only cracked one tube. Apparently, he did not want the cops to come up and create a bad scene at his new business so he hastely payed me to get me out of his hair. Even better for me....only one of the four LED tubes was cracked as they only had to jack up one side. Sold the other three LED tubes on EBAY for $150. So in essence, I got back 1 and 2/3 times (roughly $400) the amount I paid for the kit.($240) Thus, I come out smelling like roses..... Oh and as for that tire shop, there out of business already. They destroyed my homeboys side sills on his bodykit for his S2000. Apparently, we werent the only victims either.....
