KG just needs to get out of Minnesota, then he'll have a real shot at the title, he's just not in the right place.
KG needs a guy like Kobe, Tmac, Wade or even Ginobili to open things up when the going gets tough. Cassell was that one person last year but he needs someone thats not broken down. KG is the meat and potatos but you still need desert to win championships.
Detroit would be nuttier than squirrel turds to make that trade - i don't think it'll happen. But i agree, KG's gotta get outta Minny - i just miss the days where a player played his entire career in one jersey...but that's probably really rare in the first place
if garnett ended up in detriot, they would win a championship next year. put him with billups, hamilton, and prince...wow. and i like yao a lot but yao for garnett would be the steal of a lifetime. and if you think garnett is strictly perimeter orientated you're a fool. he can shoot the mid range really well but get him in the block and he's got the hakeem type fadaway from 8 feet...strictly unstoppable.
KG is just not a clutch go to guy...he has no pet post up move, he likes shooting jumpers more, overall he cannot carry a team on his back to a championship IMO. If he ever had a fellow superstar sidekick he would most likely be Robin, especially if teamed up with the likes of Kobe. His fadeaway...I don't recall him doing that on a consistent basis, hell I don't recall him having that in his reportoire. Comparisons to Hakeem's offensive skills are a joke...Hakeem was, is, and always will be the better offensive skilled player, hell even his defense was better then KG. I like KG's heart and passion for the game, he is an athletic freak who has honed his game to be one of the elite...but I say the guy just does not take over the game when he's suppose to. I just see him defer too many times to other players in tight games. It sucks that he's never had a fellow superstar sidekick to alleviate his burden but them's the breaks.
No, the Wolves would. Sheed is 'under control' where he's at -- why risk his status quo? No, the Wolves would. Big Ben is the consummate role player. In Minny he'd have to go beyond himself. No, the Wolves would. KG is the best player in the deal.
You honestly think that KG leading the pistons team would be any better than the Pistons with the Wallace boys? Please. You put KG in place of the Wallace boys in the Finals against the Spurs this past Finals, he'd fold like origami. No way does a team-oriented club like the Pistons would be better off with just KG in return. No way.
whens kg's deal expire? maybe after it does he'll come here looking for a ring.... tmac, yao kg, a guy can drem right? lets get mchale drunk then talk him into waiving him hahaha
The Wolves would be dumb to do this deal. The Wallace brothers are pretty good compensation, the 2 1st Rounders isn't bad either, but... 1. Sheed is old, he played well because of his teamates. Chauncy, Rip, Prince, and Big Ben really rejuvinated his game. But place him w/ the Wolves had and he won't be as productive. 2. Big Ben is and will still be the best big man defender. His offensive game is still poor, but the Pistons could afford that because of the Chauncy's, Rip's, Prince's, and Sheed's ability to score. The Wolves don't have enough fire power with Cassell, Hassell, and Wally. 3. The 2 1st Rounders seem good on paper, but when you realize that the Pistons w/ Garnett would be #1 in the East every season, you are talking about getting 2 picks in the late 20's at best, which is a total crapshoot by then. I don't see why the Wolves would trade KG, he is still a top 3 player in the league. Cassell, Spree, Wally, and Kandi were nice that one year. But KG needs another "star" to play along with.
http://www.freep.com/sports/pistons/pistons6e_20050806.htm Hot rumor of the day: Garnett to Pistons? August 6, 2005 The chatter meter jumped Friday after a Kevin Garnett-to-Detroit trade rumor popped up. It started with a Toronto Sun report in the morning. Columnist Bill Harris said he had heard a "crazy trade rumour" (yes, that's how they spell it in Canada). Citing an anonymous source, the newspaper reported that there was talk the Pistons would trade Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace plus two first-round picks for Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett. It makes sense that new Pistons coach Flip Saunders would be interested in his former star but not at the price of two cornerstone players and two draft picks. The Pistons reportedly denied the rumor, and president of basketball operations Joe Dumars has said he wants to keep his starting five intact and add complementary backup pieces. Bottom line: We're not buying it. But it does make us think about a few things: •Without Ben and Rasheed, who guards Shaq? Lindsey Hunter? •Big Ben to Minnesota could be good for T-Wolves fans. The 'Fros can keep their ears warm. •Would Garnett have left Robert Horry open for that three-pointer? •Maybe we should ask for Latrell Sprewell, too. (Then again, he chokes under pressure.) •Garnett entered the NBA to get paid instead of going to college. Maybe he should have gone to Michigan and done both. •How can we work Darko into the deal?
I'm not saying that Kevin Garnett will never win an NBA championship. I'm saying that he can't win one with Minnesota. He has to be paired with another superstar to win it all. This said, I don't ever see the TWolves trade their icon.
Off-topic: Is it me, or is this one poorly written article? I mean, is it about KG to the Pistons or about how bad the Raps are/will be? Oh well, carry on.
KG is good. But...the starting front court of a championship team just one year ago plus two 1st round picks?...the price is too steep. I wouldn't like the trade if I were a Pistons fan. It's just a scary thought that the team might have to start Darko at the center position after the Wallace brothers are gone...
The Pistons probably have the right idea about getting a superstar big. With Brown's exit, and a healthy Heat, they must make a move.In the East,Garnett will put monstrous numbers.KG brings youth and is on another level talentwise. Count me as one that likes this deal for Detroit.
