I think he was speaking more of the team chemistry, as in...what he brings to the lockerroom, not the court.

does anyone have access to a website dealing with nba stats? check payton's win-loss record with the celtics when he dished out 8 or more asissts and/or took 10 or more fga.

So, the Chronicle's article of NVE and DA being pursued by the Rockets may come true. I for one would like to have NVE and Da on the team. I guess will find out come Monday since that is the day teams will release players under the Alan Houston rule.

I really think that Payton would accept a 1.7 mil. deal for the last chance to win a championship. I never really liked payton especially when he played for LA but he was a productive pg last yr when you consider his stats

Gary Patyon-6.1 apg (13th in the league) and a 3.17 A/TO ratio (12th in the league)

    compare that to

Damon Stoudamire - 5.7 apg (18th in the league) and a 2.79 A/TO ratio (23rd in the league)

Those are gonna be the most important stats because we need a true pg that can penetrate and dish. He might only give us one year with those same numbers but atleast he'll be a temporary fix with our LLE money. Another argument for GP(6'4 i think) is that he has the size over DS(5'10) and so we won't be as mismatched against the chauncey billups and Jason Terry's in the league.

I agree GP is a better guard in passing, but in defense, GP is no fix to our problem neither. There would be mismatch whenever the opponent guard is quick and fast. I also doubt whether GP can match DS in scoring department. BTW, DS is no longer available.

I wanted Stoudamire but I think Payton would be really good too. I think he could win comeback player of the year here.

Yao can learn a lot of things from Payton, like trash-talking....

Yes this is exactly what i mean
Last season the rockets liked each other and it materialized into wins.
NVE's Jacking up shots can be corrected by JVG

NVE just seems like a repeat of another player we have - Mike James

Just say NO to payton, does anyone remember how badly he got torched on the lakers in the playoffs? And that was almost two years ago... he's too old and isn't getting any younger.

DA is the worst of these prospects, he has NO legs anymore. I swear at least Damon could be slightly distinguished from the scrubs at Fonde, DA was worse than them jacking up off-balance fadeaways and missing all his shots.

Finley is about the only guy I would even consider at this point, unless we can make a fair trade and get rid of some of our guards.

ugh, it seems people here don't want any PG for this team. no matter who we bring up, most people shoot it down.

jay williams is unproven and probably won't even play. damon was too short, old, and a bad defender. payton will ruin chemistry, is too old, can't shoot, can't defend. DA is just bad. spree is too, and old. etc, etc, etc...

what do you expect for the LLE? even the idea of damon or finley for that price didn't get the majority vote here.

not one PG in the league, outside of hinrich, would be the perfect fit here. all we have to offer is $1.67M to FA's and wesley, james, Jho, spoon in trade.we aren't getting hinrich, ridnaur, duhon, or jaric. the guys we would be lucky to get like watson, damon jones, cassell, and knight would probably all see the same critisism on the board. too short, can't shoot, can't play defense.

we should all be reminded that sura is to old and can't shoot. wesley is too short and can't guard big two's or quick one's. mike james will shoot MORE times than NVE if both were given the same minutes on our current roster. we still won 51 games with them.

I was suprised when I looked up the stats. Based on this, I would say GP is the guy we want. GP had a pretty good year, I saw quite a # of Celtics games and I thought GPs age was showing but I guess I was wrong, these are pretty good #s.

    NVE
    53 34 30.5 .381 .389 .784 .4 2.7 3.0 4.3 .83 .00 1.74 1.30 11.1

    GP
    77 77 33.0 .468 .326 .761 .6 2.4 3.1 6.1 1.14 .16 1.92 1.60 11.3

    Good riddance.

I don't want Payton, NVE or DA either.

NVE is over the hill, DA barely played last year and Payton was completely worthless in the finals against the Pistons.

I would rather stick with Sura and James. We still have Head and Spanioulis too.

Let's try and trade for a 2/3 swingman (Mason, Wallace) and wrap this offseason up.

personally I agree, if the Roxs go after anyone I think they should take a chance on Jay Will, at least he's young and could have an upside.

I'm tiring of these NVE reports: "He's in. He's out. He's in. He's out."

So what is he? A male p*rn star?

i dont think we need any more guards unless they are young, athletic or possibly larger. More old point guards are not needed, but if we had to get one i'd pick NVE. He's pretty quick. Im confident JVG could correct NVE's shot jacking problem. Payton is way too slow, we need athleticism
