Is anyone else watching this show? It rocks! Seriously, it is the 3rd highest rated show on CNBC, only behind the opening and closing bells. If you haven't seen it yet, you should check it out, especially the lightning round. I bring this up because Bill Brown made a reference to it last night in relation to Astacio's current value, as well as a fidelity commercial during the game also referencing Jim Cramer. This guy is catching on faster than ghonnerhea. Booyah.
I am sooo glad that he's not doing the show with Larry Kudlow anymore. I was under the impression that Cramer had a history of drug problems and Kudlow had a history of questions about ethics and dot-com mania. It turns out it was the reverse, (Kudlow was a heroin addict and alcoholic!) which I'm not sure is good or bad, but I enjoy listening to the show on CNBC on my Sirius. There's a salon.com article titled It was just stupid, TheStreet.com's co-founder, Jim Cramer, explains why he regrets his dot-com days. He has really good energy, and I'm sure the success has quite a bit to do with the fact that he doesn't try to go in depth too far or stay on anything for any period of time. I think he tries to be as straightforward and honest as possible, which I found was not the case with Kudlow and Cramer. (I still remember a show they did at the start the first correction of this cycle, in which they sounded like the Iraqi propaganda minister anouncing impending Iraqi victory over the US. I have heard a couple of recomendations that he's made that have made me say What?? The best money show of all time was Wall Street Week whith Louis Rukeyser. The guy was very cynical about corporate motives, and it was formated to be a roundtable type of show. Much slower than Mad Money but much more thoughtful. Both it's strength and shortcoming. Unfortunately, Rukeyser's health has gone down hill and the show had to be canceled.
Ottomaton: I agree entirely with your thoughts on his picks. Some good, some laughably bad. They had an article a couple of weeks ago that said he's been correct roughly 50% of the time. So anyone who trades solely on the advice of someone throuwing out stock picks faster than a slot machine jackpot throws out quarters is an idiot. BUT, I do believe it is a highly entertaining show, and would recommend it to anyone who thinks watching stock advisors is boring. The man is frantic.
Yeah, Mad Money is a great show. Jim also does a radio show which is a little less high-energy but he's still his same high-strung self. What makes the TV show really click is how well they screen the phone calls. By knowing which stock the callers want to talk about in advance, the producers are able to have that stock's chart ready to put on the screen. Really helpful when Cramer's giving his opinion. Sometimes I think Cramer is going to burst a blood vessel when he really gets going.
Have you guys seen Cramer on the show where he has some kind of speed round where he takes calls from callers about stocks and he blabbers about them and gives them advice as fast as he can? Is this the same show? I swear sometimes I think the guy's going to burst a vein... Oh yeah... and.... BOOYAH!!!
Yes, this is the TV show Mad Money. The speed round is the "Lightning Round". As you know that's when it gets crazy.
The lightning round is the best part! We're always joking that he has to be on something when he does that. I enjoy the hell out of it. Apparently I'm not alone.
i always wondered what that show i came across a few times at 3:30 am on CNBC was called. that guy is pretty nuts, but the show is somewhat entertaining. of course, at 3:30 am, things seem a lot more entertaining.
I love Mad Money. I first read about Cramer many, many years ago in GQ magazine (I was waiting to get my hair cut). The guy sleeps only four hours every night! He's up long before dawn and is trading in foreign markets. He really, really, really knows his $hit.
i watch that show at least 3 times a week. i love it, but i never looked into his track record.... 50% aint great by any means, but anyone that would strictly invest according to a show like that is a maroon.
Reminds me kinda of Crossfire on CNN a bunch of loud talking that is fun to watch even if you don't really care about the content..
the only thing predictable about cramer's picks are that they will get pumped up for a bit after hours
