We have money tied up in Sura, James, Ward, Head and Moochie. That's already 5 PG's right there. Granted, some have the ability to play some off-guard minutes, their primary position is PG. We throw NVE into that mix, there's one more. There's absolutely no need to go into next season with 6 PG's. I realize the offseason is still young---trades can be made and we can use the amnesty rule, but unless we move some of the PG's we already have where does a guy like NVE fit (besides on the injured reserve)???

It's not that i'm against signing NVE, it's just that given our situation I don't think we need him or can afford to use the roster space on yet another mediocre PG. He's a talented scorer and his assist-to-turnover ratio's speak for themselves. Basically an aging, gifted playermaker that we don't have room for.

I will admit I was all for acquiring Damon Stoudamire, however I was mostly for it because I knew if it was going to happen it would be through a S&T. At least that way we would be dumping some of our useless, deadweight, expiring contracts instead of adding a new one at a position we already have enough money tied up in.

Our beloved team does seem to have a problem with finding a decent PG.

If we look at it like this:

    PG: James, Head
    SG: Sura, Barry

With Moochie and Ward as non-existent because they reek.

Sura being the primary ball-handler (so to speak) in that scenario.

I wish we had a real PG, but rather than really dealing with the situation, CD has invested a bunch of money in pseudo/quasi-PG's, hoping T-Mac and Sura could run the show OK from the shooting guard/small forward spots.

All of our MLE went for a PF/C, so it very much made sense to draft the best, most athletic, 1-2-3 available. Since Head is a very athletic 2/1, it makes a lot of sense in the contrext of the Swift move. If we just keep all our key guys (I don't consider Padget key) and brought on Swift and Head that is a very successfull offseason.

Now we are just trying to add the cherry on top if we can find a useful guard for the LLE or vet minimum. Anyone 1, 2, or 3 who might give you some valuable PT at this price is a bonus--thus NVE comes in the picture.

Nooooo to NVE.He's not only has lost at least a step, but defense has never been his strongsuit.NVE's game has been predicated on his athleticism, which we need, but I fear he doesn't possess enough anymore to be more than a spotup shooter.I agree that we need to add some size to our backcourt, but also athleticism. As far as NVE goes,i wonder if he has the mindset to know his limitations, and play a defined role on a title team now.

If there was any news in this thread could someone please point me to the post number. This seems like the same old suppositions and "what if's" we've been talking for weeks. It is becoming pretty obvious we are either waiting for the amnesty cuts or that Les just isn't going to spend the money to put a championship team on the floor.

Head is going to do something, but we don't know what and he probably won't do it this year. We have a bunch of overpaid bench warmers at the guards and IMO no one but James as a b/u is worthy of bringing back at all. Okay, maybe Sura for pure heart if he is healthy.

DS and NVE are both b/u PG's these days and we don't have room for everyone. The starting PG will have to be better than them, those are guys you save for must win games or the playoffs. We are desparate for a SG and a b/u swingman. For the life of me I don't understand why they spent good money on Bowen unless he put on 20 lbs and developed a 12-15 Jumper we don't know about.

Sorry about the rant, but unless some major stuff is going on behind the scenes we don't know about, a couple of great players and another box of bandaids does not a championship make.

do you think Michael Jordan would be pissed if he knew that some people use "MJ" to refer to Mike James?

No, because Jackson was not referred to as MJ. Michael Jordan coined and earned MJ
Plus, I don't think Michael Jackson would hold himself higher than a champion like Jordan

Why? Michael Jackson is a bigger figure (worldwide) than Jordan.

I have come here not to praise NVE, rather I come to not bury him for the frikkin' LLE. :)

He's not want we want, but people are severely underestimating how necessary the 3pt. shot is on our team because of the way teams play us when T-Mac and Yao are on the floor. And I think people are seriously overestimating how much room there is near the lane when Yao's on the court and how much great driving ability would help us. Besides we have no pg on the roster that's any better at it than NVE is even now.

Consider this: getting Pike and Padgett seemed to most of us as "no-brainers" because of their shooting. Neither really thrived here (when it seemed like they should) probably because we didn't have a pg that could pass the ball consistently where they needed to shoot in rythym.

NVE can do that better than we have on our roster (Head is a wildcard). And his 3 pt. shot is better than anyone we've had at pg since Kenny Smith and NVE is much more consistent and more of a scoring threat than KS was.

Defensively we have problems with Sura and James too but I fail to see how NVE's a worse disaster there, though he might possibly be. I'll still take the shooting stroke and passing ability over what we have now.

fellas, what is it that the Rockets need most? another creator/scorer. nick van exel is the closest thing to a creator/scorer out there. as it is, we have one creator/scorer on this team. Tracy Mcgrady can create shots for others but we need another player on the floot with that ability, a player who can break down defenses and not only create shots for himself but create shots for others as well. Jeff Van Gundy knows Nick Van Exel can do that and that's why he'll be a Rocket by Monday. Count on it.
