Not really, most stadiums have similar things going on, now if the crowd would only get louder every once and while it might seem so annoying.
Whoa. What about MLB. There can't be anything more boring than watching a couple of teams that have already been eliminated by August. At about this time, there are only about a dozen teams that have something to play for. Combine that with baseball's inherantly slow pace, and we got all the makings of a snoozefest.
The Toyota Center is a freakin morgue. Blue hairs and guys on dates sitting down holding their nuts the entire game.
i disagree. the baseball season is designed to weed out the bad teams and have the good teams rise to the top. winning a division is a serious accomplishment in MLB. regular season titles are noteworthy. not so in hoops. the games in MLB mean more from night to night because there are so few playoff spots. getting to the playoffs in the NBA is ho-hum. being the 8th best team out of 15..woo hoo!!!! getting to the playoffs in MLB is very difficult...as dierker said the other day, it's often much more difficult than even advancing in the playoffs.
Well, it's not just the "louder" thing... his voice just doesn't seem to fit in... The Astros guy is perfect for baseball.
I don't know about you all, but it seems to me that most people that attend NBA games are there for everything other than the actual game that is taking place on the court. It is more about the game presentation and overall atmosphere that makes seeing a game live better than watching it on tv.
I can tell you that when me and the wife go down to watch a game, we are screaming our butts off and we are totally into the game. That being said there are quite a few people who are just taking up space.
I can rarely watch baseball..I try to get into but it just doesn't happen! With the Astros I can at least tune in and out but if I were to watch any other team..I would die! Basketball is almost the same but I can usually bare it when other teams play but usually I only watch the rockets.. I'll watch football whenever its on, no matter who's playing
yeah, but we're talking about individual games. A baseball game in the middle of July is more boring than an NBA game in the middle of February. Even though the baseball season means more the games don't get exciting as far as division races are concerned till mid to late August.
That true, probably only about 25% of us at a game are actually Basketball fans. I break it down like this: 25% of us are basketball fans (and we pull for our team, the rockets) 50% of the people there are just rockets fans (they don't keep up with other teams and players in the nba) 25% are just people who are just there because someone gave them tickes, they are trying to find something to do other than stay home, they are trying to impress someone, or they are just getting out of the house or whatever.
The thing I noticed most in a NBA game is that the time really really flies when you're sitting there...before you know it, the games in the fourth quarter and it's almost time to go home...also the players are all just so big, especially the ogre Yao.
For me, the major difference is that you will be able to watch the commercial break shows on the court. Since it is commercial time, you won't see these shows on TV.
I HIGHLY recommend you take a vacation and make the trip. Before you go in you have to walk down, I believe its East 153rd, there's about 3 bars and on gameday they all overflow out into the street. Once inside the stadium go directly to Monument Park, get there early to avoid long lines. I remember my first time there I just sat there and soaked in all in. All the history, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, no team can match that history. Fenway and Wrigley are the 2 other parks I hope to visit.
Even watching a Clippers game in the stands is much better than half of the games you see on TV. Overall, the experience is much faster. The 2 and a half hours just wiz by like a really fun perfomance. There aren't any commercials to divide time, and most stadiums do a good job entertaining during time outs. Being an ass and getting your money's worth is the only way to watch the game. Don't let the fair weather fans try to shame you with their dirty glares.
2 things about the game live and inperson. It so much faster than what you realize when you see in on tv. That and the players are so much bigger than what you realize (or at least what I did). Also, just me, but I love going to sporting evens live. Just something about being there in the atmosphere and the smells and sounds and stuff. It just different.
It's not really all that it's hyped to be. Sometimes I prefer watching at home, and the only reason I'll actually go to the game is to get out of the house. If you buy a good seat and you are in Houston, it's a lot like watching it on TV with your parents sleeping in the same room, you just watch and cheer quietly. The fans at the game suck, the atmosphere doesn't allow you to truly be a part of the game. But if you go to someplace like Dallas, you are a part of the action and you're giving your team momentum...but who cares, Dallas sucks anyway
I think it boils down to you as a sports fan, do you like seeing a football game live or on the Tele? I unlike most of the posters here find the TV experience better, I never sit at courtside, though I don't sit in the cheap seats either, so I get a better view of the players on TV and generally like the analysis and replays that are missing when you attend a live game. If you want to cheer and watch on TV, see the game on a 62" HD TV at a sportsw bar.
