    Celtics notes
Before the Celts' press conference at Healthpoint in Waltham, Walter McCarty was having lunch with his wife and children following a workout.
The former Shamrock, who was dealt to Phoenix last year, is a free agent and has narrowed his choices down to Philadelphia, Houston and Dallas.

The question is do the Rockets want him for the LLE or Vet Minimum?

If we do sign him, it is obvious JHow and Spoon are as good as gone. Otherwise, we have WAAYYYY too many forwards.

I would rather have him than Ryan Bowen. He does everything Ryan does, plus he's more athletic, more physical and a much better shooter. He would be a decent back up to T-Mac, but I doubt that we'll get him now that we have Bowen

I like him, Walter can play 3 and we can slide Tmac to 2 for certain matchup!

He is 6'10". I doubt we'd sign him to be our primary backup at SF.

Mccarty is set to replace Padgett as our token Kentucy grad, 3 point shooting, power forward !

...also, this is another sign that the SUNS are quietly falling apart at the seams...

Seemed like he could hit the 3 pretty consistently last year and that's always a good thing for this team. Of course, after posting this, I'll look it up and see that he hit 23% or something last year. :)

I don't think this is necessarily the case. McCarty is a good player to come off the bench, but I don't think Howard is in jeopardy of losing his spot. I assume Swift will start, and Howard will spell him off the bench, but that all remains to be seen. Spoon on the other hand....

McCarty would get spot minutes. But the question remains, are we really that interested in him?

Interesting possibility although I thought he was a better 3pt shooter - career 35%. He also played for JVG as a rookie with the Knicks

he would be a nice backup, but will there be ANY minutes for him?

i can't see swift playing less than 30 per game. Jho will get 18 at least. unless he can play the 3 when tmac is out (i don't think he is quick enough to) then how can we be interested?

and what about bringing deke back? when we do that we will have 15 players on under contract.

    yao-deke-baker
    stro-jho-spoon
    tmac-bowen
    wesley-jb-head
    sura-james-ward-moochie

unless there is a 2-for-1 trade out there, i doubt we bring him in. i would much rather have buckner for the LLE.

well last year he only played about 13 mpg and was able to jack up over 2 3pt shots a game. so i think the purpose for his minutes will be pretty clear.

I like him. Good 3-4. I wonder who we would be trading or cutting.

Was he the one that drain the 3 ball on us all day, in that game where Yao was dominating? He went 6-10 behind the arc or something close to that...

Kind of funny since immediately after I found out Padgett signed with the Suns I jokingly suggested we fire back by signing the Suns' version of Padgett.

I remember that post. In all honesty, I think we come out ahead in that swap both in size and athleticism.

Exactly. He would add great debth to our bench and anther athletic forward (way more athletic that "scotty the body") who can strech the floor. This would be a great pick-up

McCarty would be a great backup for TMac. He is a tall player that can defend and hit the open 3. I imagine him as a more athletic Padgett or a Eric Williams w/ less of the intangibles.

[obnoxious Boston Celtics announcer] WALTER [/obnoxious Boston Celtics announcer] sucks.

He had one game where he decided to jack up 10 3's and now he's a great 3 point shooter??

He shot 35% from behind the arc and 40% from the field while pulling down a whopping 1.9 rpg in 13 mpg. Remember he's 6'10" and athletic.

Scott Padgett shot 40% from the 3 point line and 42% from the field while managing to snag 2.8 rpg in 14 mpg. He's 6'9" and not quite the athletic specimen.

There has to be someone out there better than Walter McCarty.

To fill what role? If he's Padgett II then that's the role. If he's to be 30+ mpg then oops, Rox be in big trouble.
