No! It's not about that… freaks!!! Its about the band! I was a hugh fan of XTC in the 80's and I've recently pulled out my vinyl and started reacquainting myself with them! They are still amazing! Drums and Wires Black Sea English Settlement Mummer Skylarking Oranges and Lemons All great albums! And not to mention their side project, The Dukes of Stratosphear, and those albums! Come on you old farts! Did anyone else get off to XTC? ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.
you should get the three latest ones Homespun Apple Venus Vol 1 and Wasp Star they'll definately grow on you. XTC is so... pagan! rH ------------------ Homecourt will always be 'The Summit' to me!! Until we move downtown!! The Psychedelic Groove House of Rockets Basketball Love! "I want a hamburger, no a cheeseburger..." --Spaulding, Caddyshack http://www.carlspackler.com
Been a huge fan since the early 80s. Great band. I once met the band and got all of their autographs. Andy Partridge is an interesting fellow indeed. The 2 volumes of Apple Venus are great. Vol 1 is the mellow one and Wasp Star (Apple Venus Vol 2) is its electric counterpart. BNoth are great. My 2 faves are still Skylarking and English Settlement, with Big Express coming in a close 3rd. ------------------
I joined late in '88 to Skylarking, but what a great album! Don't need another sat-e-litte and of course Dear God, sorry to disturb you, but. Thanks for reminding me, I'll pop it in to the old timey tape deck. ------------------ It only costs $180.00 to have a couple of mullets yell in your ear.
rH and Space Okay, okay! You sold me! I'll go get Apple Venus! I've just been a bit scared to because I have such great memories of their old stuff. And I'm afraid of being disappointed. Gotta take a chance huh? ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.
I didn't care for AV Volume 1 but Volume 2 is terrific. Volume 1 is a really amazing work with all its orchestration, but I just didn't care for it. mc: Have you ever listened to any of the spinoff bands? I had a friend who loved XTC and he also loved all the wierd psychedelic spinoff bands Partridge and the others did. Oranges and Lemons is still my all time favorite. ------------------ And then, depression set in...
Jeffy if you like Oranges and Lemons, then I think you would love Partridge's side project, The Dukes of Stratosphear! Basicly XtC with a couple of their friends sitting in! Oranges and Lemons is the closest an XTC album came to the Dukes. They did 3 Albums 25 O' Clock Psonic Psunspot Chips from the Chocolate Fireball (the only one I don't own) Very psychedelic! 'The DUKES' say it's time to visit the planet smile... it's time the love bomb was dropped... it's time to eat music... it's time to kiss the sun... it's time to drown yourself in SOUNDGASM and it's time to dance through the mirror. 'The DUKES' declare it's 25 O'CLOCK. ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is. [This message has been edited by mc mark (edited April 11, 2001).]
I definitely liked Dukes of the Stratosphere. Very cool band. ------------------ And then, depression set in...
HeyP when did you DJ @ KTRU? Man! That was pretty much my favorite radio station while I lived in Houston! ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.
MC Mark, If I am not mistaken, Chips From the Chocolate Fireball was the two albums combined on one disk. ------------------
Yes, I'm positive on that now. "Chips" is just the Dukes LP an EP on 1 CD. They were never released individualy on CD. ------------------
remember Ray Shea's "Mutant Punk Flower Hour" or the irresistable voice of Scheleen on Thursday at 7. It did Friday night after the S&M show once I established tenure. I was the guy who never went on air, since the S&M show talked too much. non-stop music for 60 minutes at a chunk. Boy was that a rush. My claim to fame is being the first to convince the station they needed to buy anything on the 3 A.D label.
HeyP!!! I LOVED Mutant Punk Flower Hour! The S&M show rocked! OMG! I also loved the bluegrass show (I think it was on Sat or Sun mornings) Tuesday nitro was also very cool. Ah...those were the days! ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.
3 A.D.?! Any relation to 4 A.D.? What a great community of artists that label had in the late 80s..... ------------------

....memories....*sigh* I played them all the time at KTRU. Black Sea is amazing. And English Settlement has to be on my top 20 list of all time. Too bad Andy Partridge had that stage fright. I never did get to see them play. Do you know originally The Police were opening for them in Canada.
